What Do You Call A Blind Dinosaur?
We did end up going to see Jurassic Park in 3D on Friday. Before the movie though, they do those ‘inside looks’ at other movies/TV shows. And they did one on Vikings! I was still getting situated in my seat and I hear this voice go, “The History Channel takes a look at Viking, Ragnar Lothbrooke,” so, of course, my head whips up and there he is on the giant movie screen! And this strangled noise of desire comes erupting out of me. I couldn’t help myself, you guys - he’s so pretty. And down at the other end of our little group, I hear The BFF burst out laughing at me. I can’t be blamed for my reaction though - if you watch the show, you understand.

Anyways, so the movie - I know you all wanted a play by play from The Nephew but sadly, due to the popcorn sharing arrangement, I didn’t get to sit right next to him. But I do have a few tidbits for you.

Right around where the T-Rex is trying to eat the car the kids are in, The Nephew goes, “Are the kids going to survive?” and when my sis told him ‘yes’, he goes, “How about the dinosaur guy? How about the lady scientist with the Triceratops?” and a few seconds after that, “Are you scared? I’m not scared but you can hold my hand if you want.” So my sister held his hand for awhile. Also, during the scene when they are climbing the fence and the electricity is about to come back on, The Nephew starts yelling at the screen, “Jump! Jump, Tim, jump!” He really got into it. He also laughed at all the appropriate parts - like when Tim is watching the T-Rex eat the flock of dinosaurs and is all, “Look at all the blood!” and Dr. Grant has to carry him away. And when the jeep gets chased by the T-Rex and Dr Malcolm goes, “Do you think they’ll have that on the tour?” I think there were a lot of first time kid viewers there too, which is cool. A whole new generation of Jurassic Park fans!

Speaking of Dr. Malcolm, you may remember this I got from The BFF a few years ago. The scene that picture is taken from in the movie - as soon as it came on screen, us girls all busted out laughing. There was just seriously no holding it in. The BFF has effectively ruined that scene forever. And yeah, I know that he’s all posed like he thinks he is on the cover of a romance novel, but I don’t care! I love him and I look forward to being the next future ex-Mrs. Malcom, cuz that’s my man!

Also, that scene where the Raptors are going to get Lex and Tim - the Raptors recently started reminding me of Kirk & Pippin. Kirk knows how to open and close doors, as long as they aren’t latched. And they also like to walk side by side just like that and sometimes the nip at each other’s neck. Whenever Kirk and Pippin are doing things side by side, we like to yell, “Brothers!” at them. Cuz they’re Brothers! So at the movie theater, I leaned over and whispered to my sister about the raptors, “Sisters! They’re Sisters!” Yeah, in the middle of a very scary scene, my sister busted out laughing.

Anyways, as soon as we got settled in the car, The Nephew informed us all, “Yeah, I think I probably do need to see them all in order now.” I guess he meant it because he made his dad rent #2 & 3 this weekend. My mom called him yesterday and he told her that he couldn’t talk because he was right in the middle of watching Jurassic Park 3.

So question: How many of you get Tim’s blind dinosaur joke? I admit to only figuring it out about 5 years ago, which is just sad for how many times I have watched Jurassic Park.

I am super glad we went! It was awesome to see it on the big screen again! There were a surprising number of things I picked up on that I hadn’t noticed before, despite watching it about once every three months since it came out. The 3D was cool in a few places - mostly during the T-Rex attack - but I feel like it would have been just as cool in regular format, up on the big screen. The thing about Jurassic Park is just how many bad days, depressions, illnesses it has gotten me through. It's my movie, you know?

That sounds wonderful. Its always been a movie I like but not one of my movies. I love your nephew, he's just adorable. Also I needed to read this as I had another soul crushing meeting with the administrators and don't know yet what's happening with my job.

I am really glad I decided to forgo therapy to take him to this movie! It was well worth it. Things that I have such a love for, like Jurassic Park, are extra special when I get to introduce The Nephew to them.

I know it was a terribly crappy day for you the other day. I hope at least the rest of your week is going better.

I had a good meeting with the other librarian who has met some of these problems. I want to keep working with her and finding ways to teach this school how to have libraries and do things right. Then some good conversations with IT, lots of good little moments though ended with the faculty broke off into department meetings. I sat for a little with the English department but didn't really fit. Its tough and left me with a bit of an ache as well as being hit by a solid wave of tired.

But I have lots of good advice about contacting the job agency, the other librarian will write a sort of reference letter or me and I'm going to do some librarian blogging again. If they really don't care or pay attention to my words then I'll do what I want to.

If they really don't care or pay attention to my words then I'll do what I want to.

THIS. That sounds like just the kind of thing you should do. They just don't seem to get it at all, but someone out there will, so keep up your blogging until you find someone that gets your voice.

When I was being interviewed for jobs, a few people commented on my blog and read it. I remember one librarian had even printed it out, which was surprising and nice. Though I don't think anyone from Roeper did that or if they did, they didn't refer to it. I also hate that I haven't updated it in ages, but new job, it happens.

It will be positive, I'm going to write about the displays with pictures and the joy of seeing kids picking books off of them.

What Do You Call A Blind Dinosaur?
I think I'm not getting it.
dodger_sister: jurassic parkdodger_sister on April 10th, 2013 11:26 pm (UTC)
Have you ever seen Jurassic Park? If not, I recommend you do. It was a ground-breaking movie for its time, but it still holds up really well. It's based off a Michael Crichton book.

Anyways, in it, the little boy asks a joke...

What do you call a blind dinosaur?
Doyouthinkhesaurus.

And then...

What do you call a blind dinosaur's dog?
Doyouthinkhesaurus Rex.

Now I always got the part about adding the word 'Rex' for the dog. It's a common name for dogs and also adds to the joke about dinosaurs like T-Rex. But I still didn't get the blind dinosaur part. For years. Until one day, I said, "doyouthinkhesaurus" out loud, very, very slowly and realized it was...

Do You Think He Saw Us.

It's embarrassing how many times I heard that joke before I got it.
Jojojojothecr on April 10th, 2013 11:35 pm (UTC)
I know the movie. Saw it a hundred times. And when I'd read the line, I clearly recalled hearing it in the movie, I just couldn't find out why it was so funny. It is, though! :D

And now, for the life of me, I can't remember what they said in the Czech version ('cause I never saw it in original).

I agree that Jurassic Park is amazing on the big screen - it's how I saw it the first time it came out, and the vibration of dino-steps in my chest, and the hugeness of the first sighting on the island, has never left me.

It sounds like you guys had a fantastic time.

It took you five years to register "Doyouthinkhesaurus?" I'm saddened. Deeply, deeply saddened. ;)

TES. THIS. We didn't have the digital surround sound at our theater but JP was only being released to theaters that had it, so our town completely revamped their theater so we could get Jurassic Park. It was this amazing feeling, when the T-Rex came on screen and the whole floor shook and it felt like a real dinosaur was actually about to come through the wall at any moment. And the first sighting on the island - YES, whenever the first notes of that piece of music strike up, I feel that flood of emotions all over again. I know it's rare to be able to say, "I remember when" about such a big step forward in cinematic history.

I am very glad we took The Nephew. I love sharing with him the things that I love so much!

And I swear, I must have seen that movie 50+ times at least before I got the blind dinosaur joke! Idek what the hell took me so long. /headdesk/
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on April 11th, 2013 12:11 am (UTC)
You know, it really WAS cinematic history. The movie also made me want to cuddle with a Triceratops - but not to be a dino vet! Their poop was HUGE!

Doyouthinkhesaurus Rex will help you to see such jokes in the future. :P

“Jump! Jump, Tim, jump!”

That's great! It really is a terrific film.

The Nephew cracks me up, how involved he gets when watching movies! I credit a lot of that to his dad, who talks to him about everything that is happening while they watch. It was just so delightful to see him get the movie so thoroughly.

Man, I honestly can't believe I haven't worn through my DVD of Jurassic Park yet, tbh.

Guess whooooo? It's Hotlips Ragnar!

 photo tarzan-travis-fimmel-1_zpsdb38d15f.jpg

I don't know if you noticed, but his name is actually Ragnar Lothbrok. Everyone on the damn show except Floki (who sounds like he might actually be Scandinavian) sound like they're calling him "Lothbrook" which makes your misspelling understandable.
dodger_sister: kanedodger_sister on April 10th, 2013 11:42 pm (UTC)
Huh. I'm not sure I'm liking him as much when he isn't all scruffy and dirty and sporting the scraps of facial hair. He's very...twinkie. But damn, yes, those are his soft, soft eyes. Mmmmmm.

his name is actually Ragnar Lothbrok.

Dammit, I knew I should have checked imdb! I have seen other people spelling it Lothbrooke and I just went with that without checking to see if that was right or not. It's probably like how for the whole first season of Dowton Abbey, I kept seeing people spelling it D-O-W-N-T-O-W-N Abbey.
lizibabeslizibabes on April 10th, 2013 09:33 pm (UTC)
That movie <3 I have so much love for it. I don't think I'll ever get sick of watching it.

yay for the nephew liking it!!

The blind dino joke makes me groan and laugh all at once, but then I have a small fondness for bad jokes.

I'm glad you all had a good time :)
dodger_sister: jurassic parkdodger_sister on April 10th, 2013 11:47 pm (UTC)
I don't think I'll ever get sick of watching it.

Nope, never, me either. I think I'll be like 80 and in a nursing home and still being like, "Where's my Jurassic Park DVD?" (or whatever we have in the future besides DVDs, lol). Isn't it weird how some movies just never seem to get old for us?

I have to call The Nephew now and see what he thinks of #2 & 3. I have seen #3 a multitude of times. Dr. Malcolm is in #2, but even then, it's not as good as #3. But who knows, maybe The Nephew will be a purists who tells me the first one is the only way to go (it certainly is the BEST way to go).

The blind dino joke makes me groan and laugh all at once, but then I have a small fondness for bad jokes.

You know, it's the kind of stupid joke that little kids LOVE to tell. I forsee The Nephew latching onto it and telling it to everyone he meets.

Thanks, babe! We had a really excellent night out at the movies!
ranuaranua on April 11th, 2013 11:16 am (UTC)
lol, The Nephew is such a hoot! :D It sounds like you guys had a wonderful time.
dodger_sister: kidsdodger_sister on April 11th, 2013 07:25 pm (UTC)
The Nephew really just cracks my shit up sometimes. We had an excellent time! I am such a huge Jurassic Park dork that when I heard he was watching the sequels over the weekend, I got super excited that he was THAT into Jurassic Park and also a little jealous because I wasn't watching them right then myself. lol
wolfrider89: Pamwolfrider89 on April 13th, 2013 07:31 pm (UTC)
You got to watch Jurassic Park on the big screen? Oh man, I am so jealous. I used to watch that movie ALL the time when I was a teenager.

I'm glad the Nephew enjoyed it so much. Did he like the sequels as well? I have a special fondness for the third one, because it used to be the only one we had on VHS(!).

Hmm, the blind dinosaur joke... Which one is that? I'm sure I'll remember after I've posted this, but right now I'm drawing a blank.

Vikings! I've only seen the first ep so far, but yes, omg, he is so pretty! And also, vikings. Vikings are cool. Swedish actors in Vikings are also cool. Yup. :p

If I have misspelled every other word in this comment, I apologize. My phone hates LJ and screws with the comment box so I can't see what I've written. Stuoid phone. :p

You got to watch Jurassic Park on the big screen? Oh man, I am so jealous.

I actually saw it when it was originally released on the big screen and, to this day, it is the greatest movie going experience I've ever had. That's one reason I was so keen to make sure The Nephew got that experience too. Was it re-released over there at all? They just put it out in 3D here, so maybe you can still get a chance to go?!

I have a special fondness for the third one, because it used to be the only one we had on VHS(!).

I keep forgetting to call him! I've talked to his dad like three times this week but I keep forgetting to ask The Nephew about the movies. I have to say - /sssshhhh, don't let my Dr. Malcolm hear this/ - that the third is my favorite of the sequels as well, despite Malcolm being in the second one. Maybe because it is the one they rerun on TV the most? Of course, #2 also has Toby Ziegler from The West Wing, so...hmmm. No, 3 is still my favorite sequel.

Hmm, the blind dinosaur joke... Which one is that

What do you call a blind dinosaur?
Doyouthinkhesaurus.
What do you call a blind dinosaur's dog?
Doyouthinkhesaurus Rex.

I always got the part about adding the word 'Rex' for the joke about the dog because it is a common name for dogs. But I couldn't figure out the other part. Finally, one day, I said it very slowly and realized - Do You Think He Saw Us. And then I felt stupid.

Swedish actors in Vikings are also cool. Yup. :p

lol A lot of people are excited by Floki because that character is AWESOME (my second fav after Ragnar, in fact) and also because it is a genuine Swedish actor playing the role. Plus, who doesn't like a dude in eyeliner? I've still only made it through the first, uh, three eps, I think (maybe four? Idk, I just know I am four eps behind now after last night). But I am LOVING it! The stories, the dynamics between characters, the badass-ness (especially in the wife!), the politics - man, it has everything.
