Spring Cleaning Inside My TV.
It’s getting that time of year...spring cleaning for the Tivo. A whole host of cable shows just ended their runs for the season; Being Human, The Walking Dead, Justified, Hoarders, What Not To Wear (which actually does split seasons). Even Lost Girl only has two episodes left! How is that possible? This season was way too short. Also, it was very lacking in Hale. We wait until Friday to watch with The BFF, so I haven’t actually gotten to see the most recent episode he was in. Apparently my anticipation to see Hale is high because I had an in-depth dream about him this week that involved a lot of awkward flirting on my part - (mostly awkward because my family was in the room while I did it and we somehow thought we could stop the apocalypse by doing arts and crafts - idek). Anyways, regular seasons shows will also be coming to an end in about a month here, so I thought it was a good time to take stock.

I have quit Storage Wars. It’s just not the same without Dave. He was the guy I love to hate. And they keep rotating new people in his place and I haven’t liked any of them so far. Also, I am getting tired of Barry’s antics and I can’t listen to Daryl treat his son like shit anymore. I swear, the only reason Brandon puts up with it is because the show pays him good money. I’ve also removed Teen Mom from the Season Pass Manager, but I went and added Catelynn’s name to our wish list, so the wedding episode will pop this summer. We can’t miss Tyler & Catelynn getting married!

In sad news, What Not To Wear has been canceled. I know, it’s been on for ten years which is a great run, but I am so sad to know Stacey & Clinton won’t be gracing my TV anymore. It’s such a steady constant for me. And they are my monkeys. Dance for me, monkeys! It will run out its summer series and then be over after that.

I also tried to find out about some of our other reality shows like Hoarders, which has been off for a few weeks now and still no word on it being renewed or not. And Confessions: Animal Hoarding, which seems like it has been off for a long time now, but Animal Planet still lists it as one of their shows. And Collection Intervention and School Spirits - a summer show and a fall show, both on SyFy - but I can’t find whether those have been picked up or not. So my spring cleaning went kind of off course there.

So let me ask you guys that watch Downton Abbey, cuz my sister watches it and she just finished series one, but we Tivoed season three from PBS, so she would have it when she is ready. For some reason it only taped seven episodes, even though every episode guide and list that I have seen says, ‘Eight episodes and a Christmas special’. (six seasons and a movie!) I get PBS not running the Christmas special because it isn’t technically part of the season, but did they not run all of the episodes either? If you watch the show, how many episodes were there in series three?

Lastly, I keep thinking I am going to give up Arrow at the end of the season, but every time I think that, Felicity and Diggle do something awesome. Mostly I am just tired of the island flashbacks. We get it - he was stranded on an island and in order to survive he became a killing machine, thanks. Why did they feel they needed to show the island stuff to begin with? Now that they have though, they’ve weaved all this conspiracy into it, so they can’t give it up next season. Idk, I’m still wavering on this one.

For the record, I don't think I can ever bring myself to change out my What Not To Wear icon to any other reality show now. Just sayin, Stacey & Clinton are my scarecrows - I'm gonna miss them most of all!

Do you get the channel Lifetime? They usually air reruns of "Hoarders" (or one of the hoarding shows) on Friday night. I'm mesmerized by shows like that.

Actually I do get Lifetime! It's funny because when I go into the Tivo and click the option for 'Hoarders', it comes back with a list of, "Lifetime, Lifetime, Lifetime, etc." Sadly, I think I've seen all the reruns. /hides head in shame/ I need new episodes! There was actually a season (or two?) where I told my sister I needed a break from it because it was too depressing (I think this was during the time when both my parents were really letting their houses go). But after a certain amount of time, I said, "Okay, let's try Hoarders again," and I swear we caught up on everything we missed then.

I just don't like not knowing if my guilty pleasure shows are coming back!

I saw your post awhile back about your mom and her paper-hoarding. I am so impressed by both of you in tackling that project - (you in being good enough to do it and her for the courage to let you, because I know that is hard for some people). My mom is an 'organized hoarder' if that makes any sense. Her house is crowded with knick-knacks and books (so many books!) and it is a small house, so it feels very tight and cramped in there. But it is all on shelves and all neatly arranged, but there is just so much! There are also tons of boxes in the basement, but as long as she just leaves that stuff boxed up down there, I guess it's all fine. After watching Hoarders, I am always grateful that she doesn't have actual garbage in her house, you know.

So what other reality shows in that sort of line do you recommend? We watch Hoarders, Animal Hoarders, What Not To Wear and we finished out Teen Mom 1 and have Teen Mom 2 to go. I used to watch Intervention, but that was too heavy for me. I tried Beyond Scared Straight but I find the premise utterly ridiculous.

I also watch "Hoarders: Buried Alive" on TLC. I must enjoy watching people digging through 'stuff', because another favorite is "American Pickers" on HIS.

Mom is still bringing me paper to go through (although not as often as when we started), and I've unearthed an unused (and still good) Target gift card from about 10 years ago, an unused (and still good) Souplantation gift certificate, and an uncashed check (not still good, alas) for $12.00.

We tried Hoarders: Buried Alive (because the title sounds so dramatic!) but something about the format put us both off. I still can't figure what it was, except maybe we just missed Matt & Corey? ;)

American Pickers - I just checked out the wiki on it and it sounds right up my alley! That's what I liked the most about Storage Wars (which I just quit watching) was when they would find like actual 'treasures' in amongst the junk. I didn't care about the bidding, I just wanted to see what they found.

Awesome! Very cool that they are still good for use! :)

I'm simply shocked that they would cancel WNTW! I mean, watching that should be MANDATORY for the hoes of the world, and those who want to mock them, right?

I was reluctantly sucked into Arrow's rerun last night. It just seems so up and down in quality overall. And I was only watching so I could see SPN, and then that was a rerun too! I am sad.

However, I get Glee tonight! (Yeah, I'm seriously just watching for the new kids and the ones still at the school. The NYC storylines all need a swift kick in the nuts or slap in the face.)

IKR?! Apparently Stacey & Clinton wanted to do other things. Pfft. Whatever. They just have not had a lot of real whackjobs lately either. No skin tight leopard body suits or like the woman who sewed flames on all her clothes or the chick who wore fairy wings everywhere (seriously, those things happened!) I like the crazy ones the best. But I also have learned some valuable tips too. I try to pay attention when it is a very short person, anyone under like 5'2, and take tips that way. My style has so improved since I started watching this show, even if someone people /coughsistercough/ think I still show too much cleavage...like, in a v-neck tshirt, come on!

I think with Arrow I like everything in present day and not so much with the flashbacks. Which has me wondering if it is worth sticking with, since it is clear they aren't getting rid of the flashbacks anytime soon. But Roy Harper just joined the character cast, so...uh, what to do?! I think 'what to do' is to wait and see if anything next season grabs my attention and if so, I'll trade out Arrow for the new show.

My sister just asked me the other day if anyone was still watching Glee and I thought of you, but you're so disgruntled about it that I wasn't sure you even counted. I am glad I decided to bail when I did. It was the idea of the NYC storylines that turned me off so hard and from everything I've read, it would have just pissed me off. But some of the new kids do look adorable! (I also saw a pic of Mark S the other day and is it me or does he suddenly look his age like overnight?)
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on April 20th, 2013 04:09 am (UTC)
I thought it would be fun to be on the show, but even before I started watching it, I had more style than a lot of their guests. My students informed me I looked too good to be on it - which hey, doesn't suck! Plus, I hate getting rid of clothes.... :P

Do you know what they're going to be doing?

Honestly, it's not hard to catch up on Arrow, either. They just don't advance the overall story arc very much with each episode - kind of like a soap opera! But I'll have fun with it every now and then, I suppose.

Yeah, I'm still watching Glee. I'm watching it for the new kids and the high school stuff... and every now and then, there are some pretty good numbers from the NYC storyline. Plus, if the role-establishing Elphaba from Broadway's Wicked keeps on showing up as Rachel's blood mom even once a season (Irina Mendez, I think is her name), I'll get excited.

Clinton has a new daytime talk show (I want to say on ABC but don't quote me on that). Idk what Stacey wants to do - maybe just not put up with the crazies anymore. I wouldn't want to give up my clothes (all my geek tees!) and I wouldn't be too thrilled about being on TV - but if I could just get a makeover and $5,000 and Stacey and Clinton to take me shopping, that would be AWESOME.
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on April 20th, 2013 08:02 pm (UTC)
Oh, you know what, I think I may have seen something about Clinton's new show.

Can I just have the five grand to retailor things which still look nice, but are boxier than today's slim-fitting lines, please? I'll let a camera follow me and the tailor around for that.... (I have at least half a dozen suits that would benefit from this tailoring; I just never get around to taking them TO someone.)

Thank you! I can't for the life of me figure out why PBS only ran 8 episodes. Maybe my sister missed one? It's hard to tell because it's on PBS Masterpiece and they just list the episodes as "Downton Abbey, Season Three", so every ep is labeled the same. Idk, but I suppose I have done my part to research the issue for her - but I just know it's going to be one of those things that bugs me until I have an answer.

I've heard some stuff about series three being uber-sad. I don't watch it, but I know enough to understand that the lead romantic male dies, if I am getting that right. My sister rarely pays attention to anything like spoilers or episode talk, so she is in for a shocker!
lindahoylandlindahoyland on April 16th, 2013 01:07 am (UTC)
There's a list here of episodes.

Thanks! I'll pass it on to my sister. (she is sadly still waiting for Netflix to offer series 2 of DA and she's starting to get impatient. lol)

No, that's no good. I get like that about 'Supernatural', because everybody dies on that show. But I mean, those big tragic hard deaths - you can really only go for one a season or you start to lose your viewers, you know. Will there be a series four of DA?
lindahoylandlindahoyland on April 16th, 2013 02:24 am (UTC)
Yes, they are making series 4. It was just depressing to watch series 3 and both the deaths came out of the blue. One of them had the character showing symtoms about 5 minutes before death which in real life would have been present for a long time. People watch these shows for escapism not to be depressed. There are other ways to write out actors.

Yeah, I mean, we're talking like the 1920s, right? People died of illness and disease a lot more often back then, but it was usually a slow hard slide downwards, with lots of symptoms. I mean, it could make for a great storyline where someone is sick for a long while and is hiding it from all the other characters because she doesn't want the pity or to have them all know she is dying. But the viewers should know.

My understanding of Downton Abbey is that it is a soap-opera guilty pleasure kind of show - like Dallas, but with British people at the turn of the century. Am I getting that right?

Basically I have no idea what most of these shows are, but I was feeling a lack of dodger in my life so I had to check your lj on my phone. I've been thinking of watching Arrow, though, even if the first ep didn't really do much for me. I take it you're not too impressed either?

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. <3s. I keep meaning to send you an email and then the day gets away from me, you know. But, new Dean/Cas fic posted a few days ago, so you can check that out now.

I've been thinking of watching Arrow, though, even if the first ep didn't really do much for me. I take it you're not too impressed either?

It's one of those shows where the lead character is my least favorite. But hey, so was Buffy and that all worked out REALLY well for me. I like all the supporting players on Arrow a lot (though not to the level of the Scoobies by any means). And I like the complex layer of 'what is justice and when does the good guy become the bad guy?' and also, all the shirtlessness. But they have this whole thing about doing flashbacks to when he was on the island and making it this whole big conspiracy and I think they just went too far and are trying too hard, you know.

So idk. I mean, I enjoyed it a lot more when we all watched as a group but we don't anymore and watching it by myself, I have moments of OMGOMG and moments of complete and utter boredom. If I may suggest, try out Chicago Fire instead. Awesome friendships, awesome romances, awesome heroes, awesome angst, awesome hotties of all genders, and awesome potential for all the slashy goodness. Firefighters, come on, what's not to love?!
