Special Days!
Today is The Canadian Brother's 40th birthday! That seems so bizarre, because to me he will always be like 19 years old, which was how old he was the day he got on a bus to New York City. He wanted to try to make it as a musician. He didn't know anybody there, he didn't have a place to stay or a job lined up - he just packed a duffel, his favorite quilt and his guitar and got on a Greyhound and went to NY. My mom cried hysterically when he left, but I looked up to him for being so bold. He never did quite make the music thing work out, but he did some small musical work there and helped a few indie artists produce some albums. Then he met his wife and now he lives in Quebec with her and their two kids and a dog. I was going to send him this candy gift basket of nostalgic 80s candy - (he loved Atomic Fireballs when we were kids) - but unfortunately food can't ship internationally, so no go there.

Today would also have been Grandma and Grandpa's 71st wedding anniversary. My grandpa was like 22 or 23 and my grandmother was 17 and a senior in high school when they were dating. Grandpa was stationed up at Lake Superior in the Navy, while Grandma lived in Southern Michigan. So whenever Grandpa had weekend leave, he would hitchhike down state with truckers and the like, get there in time to take Grandma on a date and then turn around and hitchhike back again before his leave was up. Grandma turned 18 on May 3 and three weeks later she graduated high school. The very next day, they got married. Grandpa hitched down, took her to dinner, then they went to the Justice of the Peace's house and asked him to marry them. The Justice performed the ceremony in his own living room, his wife played the organ and then they opened a bottle of champagne and toasted to the newlyweds, before Grandpa had to drop Grandma back at her father's house - (where she continued to live for some time) - and hitchhike back up north to the base in time to ship out.

And that's how my grandparents got married. Old time romance stories - there's just nothing like them.

What a cool story about your brother - I don't think you've shared that here since we became friends. I really admire people who are that bold!

Thank you so much for telling us about your grandparents' courtship and wedding - it's a beautiful story and will make me smile all day long.

How are YOU?

My brother was restless and adventurous and not afraid to take chances and I always admired him for that, growing up. I was always sorry the music thing didn't work out for him, but he loved NYC with all his heart and I think to him, that will always be his true home.

It's an amazing story, thank you. I love their wedding story like no other. I don't usually get all mushy about romance, but that one hits me like no other. (I love you & TAHtm's story too!)

How are YOU?

I'm hanging in there. The dizziness has lessened, though not completely gone away. (I've learned to just wait a second after turning my head for it to pass). I'm slowly starting to get my energy back, one baby step at a time. I'll take low energy levels, 2 or 3 hours a day, as long as it is stable, every day. None of this up then back down crap. I'm getting there. The stress is mildly better as well, probably mostly because I feel better and am able to deal with it better. What I really want to do is break through and start writing again. I feel well enough that it is itching under my skin, but not quite well enough to focus on it, you know? Thank you for asking, darling!

(I love you & TAHtm's story too!) Awww! :)

I am glad that things are evening out for you - dizzy spells suck ass. Have I already suggested keeping OJ around and having half a glass or so when you get dizzy? I sometimes get dizzy spells and it's a great help toward faster recovery.

One more day of school... and then it's summer! Which hopefully also means writing time! :) I've been thinking that if I wake up early, I should write then. It'd be a good habit to get into, and then maintain during the school year, right?

Its not blood sugar though. It's swelling in my inner ear that is pressing against the nerves there and messing up the signals to my brain. And it's a 'virus' so antibotics won't help. There is nothing to do for it but time and a hardcore antihistamine (which I am on three times a day now) that will reduce the fluid in the ear, so even though the swelling is still there at least the ear is cleared out a little bit to make more room. (sounds like a crazy virus, right?)

I have decided you are right about the getting up earlier thing, that I just need like one more hour in the day, instead of sleeping all day, so now that I am feeling better I have started trying to get up one hour earlier than what I was waking up at while I was sick. Not much, just enough to get a tiny bit in. And this past weekend, I actually wrote! About 1,800 words! And tomorrow is a day I have set aside for writing as well (and watching baseball, of course!) I love Thursday, it is my favorite day of the week now cuz its writing and baseball day!

How's your writing going?

Stupid viruses.

I posted about writing earlier today - I haven't written anything new yet this summer, but I did just spend about five hours compiling well over 800 emails for a Reeducation story arc - I'm probably not even half done with it, but it was a big chunk of writing-related and necessary stuff, so I'll take it!

Oh wow, I'll have to see if there's a nostalgic candy basket from the 60s. That would be awesome for my brother.

DOOD. It's your birthday! Hope you had a good one babe. How are you feeling lately? Me and the woman are driving down to Ohio for Destielcon in a month. Whoo! If you're up to it I'd love to see you. Otherwise I'll fill you in on everything.

Hi to the family and I hope you're doing well. ♥

I had an excellent birthday!! Olive Garden, The Nephew, Godzilla, The BFF, Burgers from the grill, XMen: DOFP and presents!! Excellent, excellent.

I wish! I thought about it like a month ago, right before this dizzy virus hit me and I thought, "I am starting to get my energy back, I should do it!" But then this new thing hit and sadly there is no way. I made it to a two hour movie this weekend and was proud of myself, but a whole weekend is way to much,. I want to see you though!!!! If you ladies have a long weekend at all this summer and want to drive over, my house is the kind of perfect low key casual hang out place you would love!

Hi to the family and I hope you're doing well. ♥

Doing better, which is something! Thanks for the birthday wishes, darling!!

Thank you! I have some amazing family members with amazing stories to tell. Now, if only they all could learn to close the door when going to the bathroom, that would be great! ;)
