It's A Birthday!
Two birthdays, actually. Cuz it's my birthday! And it's also The BFF's birthday! We're birthday twins! Listen, if you get to be birthday twins with someone, I highly recommend that it be your bestest bestie. Then you get to celebrate together every year!

I have been saving all my energy for celebrations this weekend, since I'm still sick - (though definitely better than I was the last time I updated you all). So today I'm just staying in my pjs - (I will brush my hair!) - and then my sister is picking up special dinner for us. The BFF and I have decided to go Olive Garden this year. We may even sit at the kitchen table to eat it! And we'll exchange gifts as well. Then, as you know, The Nephew turned 8 a week and a half ago, and what he wanted to do for his birthday was to see Godzilla. His dad is coming to town for a wedding tomorrow and he is going to leave The Nephew with us during that time. We are going to see the movie and then we have to take him to Target to pick up a baseball bat. I already got him a pitchback for his birthday - I loved mine when I was a kid. A bat though is something you really need to pick out for yourself, hold it and see how it feels in your hands. After that we are going to my mom's for chocolate-chocolate cake and for him to open his presents. He is very excited that this year he gets to celebrate his birthday with me and The BFF - (we are his two favorite aunts, after all).

It's a holiday weekend here, so The BFF is staying until Monday. On Sunday we may cookout- (I can stay in my pjs for that too, since it's just the three of us in the backyard). And The BFF and I are going to watch the last four episodes of Arrow - (I've been too sick to concentrate on it until now, but we are dying to know what happens!) On Monday, The BFF and my sister are going to see the new X-Men movie. I may go with them, depending on how I am feeling at that point. Tuesday, I intend to lay on the couch and watch baseball all day! And next week hopefully I can finally catch up comments. We shall see.

And now, as is tradition, a picture of wee little me to celebrate my birthday.
Tee Ball
Wearing my older brother's old teeball uniform, because I wanted a baseball picture like he had!

And a big Thank You to everyone who has already posted me birthday wishes or sent me a comment or ecard! The birthday love has been pouring in and it's been delightful! I hope you all have wonderful weekends!

The weekend was jammed packed, but it was super fun. I am paying for it now with exhaustion, but it was worth it!

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, darling!

Please give your BFF greetings from me! Since she doesn't visit LJ any longer, I didn't post anything.

I will definitely pass on birthday wishes to liptonrm! She does spend most of her time on Tumblr these days. We definitely had a great birthday weekend together, thank you!

Happy Birthday!! It sounds like you've got a lovely plan for the weekend.

It was a great birthday weekend. Just what I needed after so much stress lately. Thank you! I even made it to see the new Xmen movie. Last I heard from you, you hadn't seen it yet, but I'll tell you, I enjoyed it a lot. And not even halfway through, I started thinking, " I can't wait to get home and shoot K an email so we can squee about all the Charles/Erik in this movie!" Their love (and their heartbreak) was right there for all to see. Wolverine just wishes they wouldn't have a lover's quarrel right in front of him! So let me know when you've seen it!
Kate: James: We areYoungceitfianna on May 29th, 2014 12:50 am (UTC)
I haven't seen it yet because I've been doing fact-checking which eats up my time. But that's moving along quickly and I think I might see it this weekend.

Oh good, I'm glad you liked it. There's been far too much hype around all of it which has made me far more nervous than I should be for a movie but its Charles. Since he's not an easy character to get right.
dodger_sister: x-men first classdodger_sister on May 29th, 2014 09:46 pm (UTC)
I know your concerns are that Charles would never give up his powers to walk again, but I think they handled it really well. They have both physical and emotional reasons for it and an actual science explanation as to how he managed to make that choice. For reasons personal to me that should be apparent when you see it, I found the dilemna Charles was having really fascinating and emotional and James McAvoy plays the angst and pain with raw emotions that are stunning and beautiful.

It was not the best of the XMen movies, imo, but it was certainly as good as First Class and full of C/E goodness and excellent Hank moments, as well as lots of Charles and Raven family stuff that should get your muses turning.

That's as much as I can say without spoiling you!
Kate: taking wingceitfianna on May 29th, 2014 10:00 pm (UTC)
Oh that's great to hear, if that aspect works for you, that gives me a big vote of confidence as I was worried about it too.

The fact-checking is going quickly so I'll probably see it this weekend.

Last comment reply before I head to bed for the night, bit I also saw Godzilla this weekend and it was only soso. It was good but it was a bit long and I was conscious of all the tally talk bits because The Nephew was with us. I can't wait for Maleficent though!

Boo on Godzilla for being a disappointment!

I've talked about six people into going to see Maleficent this Friday, though. Should be great! (I'm especially interested by what they seem to have done with her crow/raven familiar....)

Happiest of birthdays, even if a touch belated (LJ ate my birthday V-gift order from yesterday, but all the thoughts have only multiplied since then :-) Glad you're doing better and all the hopes that continues. I've been thinking a lot about your many words of wisdom lately and your awesomeness in your journey wrt pain issues has been a huge help. I hope your day was wonderful and your weekend keeps on being a celebration, too!

Happiest of birthdays, even if a touch belated (LJ ate my birthday V-gift order from yesterday, but all the thoughts have only multiplied since then :-)

I got TWO v-gifts from you, thank you!! I love getting v-gifts, idek why, it's ridiculous!

Glad you're doing better and all the hopes that continues. I've been thinking a lot about your many words of wisdom lately and your awesomeness in your journey wrt pain issues has been a huge help.

I am feeling better, I just have to remember to pace myself instead of trying to do All The Things! I know you have been having a hard time of things, babe. As I have been on LJ and sharing my story more openly, I have had people come forward and say how much they could relate and it has been helpful to me to hear that. I will still kick any random's strangers ass who approaches me to tell me what an inspiration I am, but that's because they don't actually know my story. For the people here who are reading my story, to be able to help them in any little way, I take that as a positive!

Speaking of which, there has been no update this month on your brother-in-law or on your cat. I fear asking about either, because no news isn't always good news, but I do hope things are looking not near as dire as they were last time you checked in. I have been thinking of you and your family (furry and otherwise) all month and hoping things were looking better.

I hope your day was wonderful and your weekend keeps on being a celebration, too!

Birthday weekend was exhausting but wonderful! Olive Garden, The Nephew, The BFF, two movie theater trips and burgers from the grill! I am wiped out now, but SO worth it! Thank you, darling!

You rock:-) BIL is hanging in there but it's sad and unfair... The cat is actually doing well on steroids and baby food. A family member has been struggling with pain meds sought out for back pain and it was a train wreck for a while but seems back on track...I think. And I think of you and remind myself of what's possible :-) Disappointing but not hopeless.

Glad the day was awesome :-) you deserve nothing less!

You rock:-)

Thank you! <3

BIL is hanging in there but it's sad and unfair...

I can't imagine, having your body slowly waste away sounds terrible and no one should have to suffer it, let alone someone with so much still ahead of him. I am thinking of your family often. <3

The cat is actually doing well on steroids and baby food.

Good to hear! Are you using a little plastic baby spoon to feed the cat? My sister's old cat had a mouth sore removed once and for several weeks we had to feed her baby food with a little baby spoon and a bib because she would get all upset if any dripped onto her fur. It was quite ridiculous but she put the weight back on, so we kept doing it.

A family member has been struggling with pain meds sought out for back pain and it was a train wreck for a while but seems back on track...I think. And I think of you and remind myself of what's possible :-) Disappointing but not hopeless.

I have a lot of pain these days but at the time I went off the pain meds, it wasn't all that much. I had been on them for years and using them inappropriately, but when I broke both my legs I stepped it up hardcore, because the pain was hardcore. But when I went off the pills, I found the pain was not as bad, it just took me several years to work up the nerve because the thought of that pain coming back was too much and on top of it, I could no longer manage my stress and anxiety without the pills - I had forgotten how to handle anything without the pills and my pain tolerance levels were all messed up. It's a hard balance when you need the pills for pain and when you know you are misusing them. If you ever need to talk about it, feel free to message me. It's weird, but I have a friend going through this issue with a family member and watching how hard it is for her really helps me to reiterate, "I can't do that again to the people I love," because when you are in it, you don't know how hard it is for them, but hopefully once you get out, you can see the stress you were putting on people. I have been thinking that it is time to hit a pain management clinic because I have been struggling since I got the bronchitis this winter, but I am unsure what they will do for me that my physical therapy does not. We shall see.

Glad the day was awesome :-) you deserve nothing less!

Thank you! It really was a great birthday weekend!

sounds like an excellent birthday plan my dear! I'm so happy to hear you're feeling better as well.

I just watched the last five episodes of Arrow myself and they were excellent, you're gonna be happy I think. And Godzilla! Perfect monster movie imho

Thank you, bb! It was an excellent birthday indeed! And I am feeling better, not back up to par but at least not flat on my back any longer!

OMG, The BFF and I were just screaming and shouting throughout the last run of Arrow! I can't believe they killed Moira! I can't believe Thea went off with Malcolm! I was so happy Blood stood up in the end. I'm also super worried about the backlash from the secret agent people. I can't beleive we have to wait all summer for more! WHEN DID ARROW BECOME THE SHOW OF ALL SHOWS?!

I enjoyed Godzilla but I wanted less talky talk and more monsters destroying the city! I think I was conscious of all the military stuff because of having The Nephew with me and his attention was running off. However, I also saw XMen and fucking loved it, so that's a win!
ranuaranua on May 30th, 2014 01:54 am (UTC)
not back up to par but at least not flat on my back any longer! that's great news! Middle ground is a damn site better than the dumps :D

Godzilla did have quite a bit of plotty stuff going on, but I really feel they did a good job with Godzilla himself. They hit all the right notes; the electrical/flamey bursts, his weird sort of pet like relationship with humanity and of course the swimming off into the ocean at the end.

I have a post in which I squee about tv, including arrow. And of course Arrow is the show of all shows, it's freaking Green Arrow! Oliver Queen is the best!

I also saw XMen and fucking loved it, so that's a win! Oh hell yes it's a win! I have so many feels about that movie. I just saw it Wednesday and I need all the fanfic right the hell now. :D

Totally agree on that. I loved the blue flame shooting into the mouth effect - that was super cool. And the moment when Main Dude stopped and Godzilla just looked at him, like their eye connection was superb. And then swimming off into the ocean. YES. The Nephew said, "Godzilla's just suppose to wake up and then attack the city and then the military shows up and they fight and then it's the end." So I think he was less appreciative of the nuances to the humanity of Godzilla. Still, if it had been about 20 minute shorter, I think it would have moved faster.

Happy, happy (belated) birthday, darling!
I'm sorry I'm late! I hope you had a wonderful birthday. <3

That picture of you is super cute! :D

New X-Men film! :D:D:D I was going to go see it tonight, but stuff happened and it got postponed. Can't wait, though! It's based on my favorite story line! Which I reread, and man, comics in the 80's were different from today's comics. All the exposition is in thought bubbles, which is kind of stilted and weird. But still, it's awesome. I know they've made a lot of changes, but I hope the main points are still similar.

Sorry, got on an X-men side track. It's your birthday (ish)! *throws confetti* I hope all your planned activities are awesome, and that you're feeling up for all of them. <3<3<3

It's been so long since Ive read DOFP but I remember the main bullet points and I think they hit on them really well. The Charles/Erik was off the charts (and holy shit, I wish The Oscars would take this movie seriously because McAvoy deserves a nod for the pain of Charles here) and some great Hank stuff and some great Charles'n'Raven stuff. Hell, even some great Erik/Raven stuff. Plus, all the stuff in the future timeline, all the great characters and action and holy hell, Storm may be the hottest she has been in any of the movies and I was jiving on that! I utterly adored it and when you watch Charles' storyline, you will understand why it hit home for me so hard. It was great.

Sorry, got on an X-men side track.

The best kind of sidetrack there is!!!

Thank you for the love, bb!

Ooh, all the TW stuff! Nice! Now I want to watch them all be bb!werewolves too. :)

I loooooved the Charles/Erik stuff. And Quicksilver! Omg, such a little brat! I loved him. :D (I'm confused, though. He's supposed to be in the next Avengers film. Have the companies finally decided to join the universes like they should? I hope so!)

I understand why Charles hit home so hard! And man, do I ever agree about McAvoy!

I loved Mystique, and that Bishop was there, and man, the 70's clothes! :D And Scott! Scott was alive! Weee! (Not as surprised about Jean, she's impossible to kill permanently. Scott has bothered me. )

It's not going to be the same actor playing him. And Scarlet Witch is going to be there, all grown up as well. Which sadly basically cements that MCU and XMen verses are separate from each other. There's no denying it now. But we will get the Quicksilver-Scarlet Witch duo in The Avengers so I am at least excited about that. (I adore them together and QS really needs his sister to help balance him out, lol).

Happy belated birthday, darlin' (I'm listening to Rascal Flatts -- it's contagious.) I was traveling on the day so I didn't post any greetings. However, here is a card that has nothing to do with birthdays, but is about Zombies, so it is just as good.
sanity-first

I laughed out loud when reading your comment about my Misha post and then deleted the post because it IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE WORST TYPES OF POSTS! I can't stand it when my FB friends say something like this. In fact, it is listed as number two ("The Cryptic Cliffhanger") in this "7 Ways to be insufferable on Facebook" article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/wait-but-why/annoying-facebook-behavior_b_4081038.html

But to answer you, I did something for Misha a LONG while back and he told me at Vegas that the project was coming to fruition within a few weeks. Then radio silence. I can't say what it is, but when it finally does appear you will know.

Thank you!! My little brother is really into Rascal Flatts too.

I knew you were traveling, I reminded myself of it ahead of time since you are usually one of the first people to wish me a happy birthday! And a zombie card is always welcome, lol! This is kind of birthday related - it's reminding me to take time out for myself at least. ;)

I laughed out loud when reading your comment about my Misha post and then deleted the post because it IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE WORST TYPES OF POSTS!

LOLOL That is true. I was just flailing all over, like what is it and do I even want to know and then you never came back and said, damn!

THAT IS SO COOL. I have no idea what it could be but any chance to collaberate with him on even the smallest thing has to be a treat. Hell, I was excited when the man held my hand, so an actually project would blow my mind. Let me know when it hits the fan!
