You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry.
I just put up a post on Tumblr, because I was pissed as hell when I heard this, and it is definitely up Tumblr's alley, but since I typed it all out - and since I'm still pissed - I thought I'd go ahead and share it here as well.

I turned on the TV the other day and The Wendy Williams Show was on and she was talking about the Jennifer Lawrence nude pics, so I figured it would be full of great talk about rape culture. It was not. Instead, Wendy Williams had this to say…

"Jennifer Lawrence, you want to know what? Don’t sweat this, young lady. I mean, you’re the one who took the pictures. And now she’s telling us why she took the pictures. She took the pictures because she had a four year long distance relationship with her boyfriend. Mind you, she’s only 24 years old. She said, ‘Either he could look at my naked pictures or he could look at porn.’ Well how about - well, no, 24, she’s still young - men would look at both. You know what I mean? I mean, not for nothing. If you ask any hot-blooded man, he would say he’ll look at your naked pictures, but he’s also going to look at porn. But, she was young when the relationship started. She said that having him be able to look at her pictures is what sustained that relationship for the four years, because they were long distance. In my opinion, if she would just stop talking about the cloud and the naked pictures, it’d go away! We’d all forget - like we’d forget about it. Really! Besides, Jen, you don’t look bad under your clothes. And this - I think the hackilation has actually made your career even hotter. Because she was red hot before, but now it’s like heat-seeking missile hot. So hold your head up with pride."

And the audience cheered and clapped and agreed with her. Listen, Wendy Williams, we shouldn’t just stop talking about it and forget about it. THIS IS A CONVERSATION THAT NEEDS TO BE HAD.

Jennifer Lawrence has stated - and I agree with her - that what has happened here is a sex crime. She has made it very clear how she feels about all of this…“It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world.”

But what Wendy Williams is basically saying here is, ‘Don’t worry about it, Jen, cuz it’s totally done wonders for your career and you're a hottie anyways and what did you expect when you took the pictures?’ And that should not fly with anyone.

This is why so many feminists are ANGRY. Because fellow women just MAKE THINGS WORSE.

Fuck you, Wendy Williams, for completely MISSING THE GODDAMNED POINT.

Right?! A whole audience that was completely full of women and they were all clapping and cheering and laughing and agreeing with this douchehat.

Fuck you, Wendy Williams, for completely MISSING THE GODDAMNED POINT.

The victim blaming when she said, "You're the one who took the pictures..." like, omg, wtf. Way to send the message that it's okay to spread this shit around because 'hey what did the girl expect when she took the picture?' Idk, maybe she expected those pictures that were meant for her boyfriend to BE SEEN ONLY BY HER BOYFRIEND!!!!

Totally agree with you. What Wendy Williams said, in effect, was that it was OK to violate a woman if it helped her career. Also, since all men are dogs, you just have to expect them to do repellent things and just live with it and keep your mouth shut. Just forget it. She doesn't sound like the kind of woman I'd want to know or see her TV show.

YES! Who cares if the whole damn world has now seen your naked body...because it totally helped your career. (which I don't think it did anyways...JL was doing just fine without this bullshit, thanks very much.)

Also, since all men are dogs, you just have to expect them to do repellent things and just live with it and keep your mouth shut. Just forget it.

Which really irks me to no end because feminism is also about expecting better of men, you know. We think you are good enough people to not just expect that you would assault us. We think you are secure enough people to be a-okay with a female boss. We think you are good enough dads to take over some of the parenting. As feminists, we expect more and better of men than society as a whole does. And this kind of bullshit here is not only setting women back, it's setting men back!

She doesn't sound like the kind of woman I'd want to know or see her TV show

I have the ability to give a 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' rating on whatever I am watching through the Tivo and I have only ever thumbs down-ed three shows before...but The Wendy Williams Show just got added to the list.

The fuck, that's such a weird, awful response. Listen to her, don't tell her what to think.

Exactly. Jennifer Lawrence has stated that she feels violated, victimized and like a crime was committed against her...and Wendy Williams was turning it all into a joke and getting the whole audience to laugh along with her. I have rarely been so disappointed in my own gender.

I don't know who Wendy Williams is, but yes, that was a horrible thing to say to someone.

One thing I do agree with though, is that you're a moron if you think giving your boyfriend naked pictures of yourself will stop him from looking at porn. And if that's why you did it, you need to take a serious look at yourself.

But being a moron doesn't give anyone the right to do to her what was done.

I'd never heard of her before either. Apparently she has a daytime talk show, which I don't really watch those, unless it's Ellen. So, boy, what an introduction to this woman I just had. I won't be watching her show again.

This is true - people who watch porn are going to watch porn, regardless of relationship status. Doing the math, she had to be around 20 when she took the pictures, which is still young and maybe a bit naive, but I am going to take a stab and say what she really wanted in this long distance relationship was for his eyes not to stray too far.

But being a moron doesn't give anyone the right to do to her what was done.

Exactly. And people act likes it's okay because she's a celebrity and this what they signed on for. Uh, no. They signed on for you to take pictures of them buying groceries at the supermarket. Not for you to spread their private personal photos all over everywhere.

100% agreed, with you and with Jennifer Lawrence.

Right?! And we don't need to stop talking about it - we need to START talking about it. How someone sending you a nude of themselves doesn't give you permission to spread it around. How just because we have social media, doesn't give you the right to post other people's private things there. How viewing a woman's (or a man's for that matter) body without their permission is doing it 'against their will' and that's a sex crime!

Agree with you. Something posted on private accounts should stay private. I don't care who you are. People seem to think they have a right to star's private lives and we don't.

People do seem to be saying, "Well, she's a celebrity and they sign on for this." And that's just...NO. They sign on for you taking pictures of them coming out of nightclubs and at the supermarket. Not their personal private photos. And viewing someone's naked body 'against their will' sure as hell sounds like a crime to me!
