Do The Dance Of Joy!
I had a really good holiday weekend. Friday was very productive with lots of replying to comments and emails and a good solid chunk of writing. The rest of the weekend was less productive, as all I want to do is play my new video game. Go!Vacation is the most fun ever! So far Dodger!Mii has run into Spock, Special Agent Danny Taylor, The Nephew, Spike, Scully, Uhura and Angel. At one point I was hanging out with Spike and Scully at the same time, which amused me to no end for some reason.

On Saturday my sister took me and The BFF out to Olive Garden for dinner. I went outside the box and tried something new - Chicken and Shrimp Carbonara and it was D-Licious. Then we shared a piece of cake at the end of the night - Triple Chocolate Cake - which is a layer of chocolate cake, and a layer of chocolate mousse, then cake, then mousse, then cake again at the bottom. YUMMY.

On Monday we had a cookout - my sister, myself, The BFF, my cousin and ceitfianna. We had good food and my cousin brought ice cream cake. We had good conversation and we played our six degrees of actors game. But most importantly, in the middle of the cookout, my sister-in-law called to say...

That she's PREGNANT!! THE NEPHEW IS GOING TO BE A BIG BROTHER!!! He has wanted a little brother for so long - he used to tell me stories about things he did with his brother, Iceman. But I am honestly hoping for a little girl. We don't have enough of those in the family. In the kid-generation, we only have two girls and one of them is the Canadian-Niece, who lives in Canada. Financially, this is going to be a big struggle for them. My brother has been doing the stay-at-home dad thing for six years and now that The Nephew is in school full-time he has started picking up some work - (he was in construction, drywall, roofing, etc), which gave them just that bit extra cash to not be sweating it all the time and now he will be back to doing the stay-at-home thing. So I am a little worried about the stress this will put on them, but mostly I am just SUPER EXCITED TO BE AN AUNT AGAIN!!!

In sadder news, The BFF moved out of our basement apartment today. Her parents are headed off for a year and a half and need someone to watch the house and the dog. So it is a good set-up for her - she can live there cheaply and be right near work - (she just got a temp job at a place that will last her several months). But it will just feel weird not to have her in the house anymore. I know, for the first eight years of our friendship, she didn't live with us - but it feels like she always lived with us. It’s okay though, we will all live together again during the end times (we have an apocalypse plan, after all).

I suppose I should do something productive now - like put away laundry or do some writing - even though what I really want to do is play more Go!Vacation.

I ALREADY MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE TOO FAR AWAY!!!!

How did we ever manage being 30 miles apart? It's absurd.

COME HOME!!!! EVERYONE MISSES YOU - even the ghost lady misses you (wierd tapping noises in my bedroom on Saturday night).

How did we survive like this before? No wonder we had to talk for an hour everyday!

Kirk is suffering from some anxiety - J's trip to Chicago the same week you moved out was probably a bad idea for him. Both he and Pippin have been following me everywhere since I got home from the bank today.

Mmmmm, now I'm so hungry! I love Olive Garden's chicken parmesan (or however it's spelled).
dodger_sister: fooddodger_sister on June 4th, 2012 08:06 pm (UTC)
My absolute favorite thing about Olive Garden is their salad. I would eat salad everyday if we always had their dressing on hand. Now I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Congradulations on becoming an aunt again!! I bet the nephew will lov being a big brother, little brother or a sister, little sisters are still fun.....my older brother might disagree, but we are! lol

Glad you had a good meal and sounds like you've got enough done to spend some time playing. I love the idea of Scully and spike together, what with her being the skeptic and all

Thank you! We're all very excited about the new baby!! I would like a girl but I will be happy if the baby is healthy and my sis-in-law has a little easier time of the pregnancy than she did with The Nephew (it was a rough one for her, part of the reason she said they were never doing this again). But The Nephew did go through a phase where everyone was his brother (all The X-Men, all the people from Scooby-Doo, even some Transformers were his brothers).

I love the idea of Scully and spike together, what with her being the skeptic and all

Yeah, maybe that is part of my fascination. I have this wallpaper that I saw on the internet and saved of Spike and Scully both looking really sexy and it looked like maybe there was a story for it, but I never found one. Ever since then, the idea of Spike and Scully - her reigning him in a little, him getting her to let down her hair a little, and both being super sexy together - has just always intrigued me. (now I'm wondering if there is a decent X-Files/Buffy or Angel crossover fic out there.)

When the time comes I'm hoping for a boy. I'd love a girl, but all the medical conditions in my family are things more likly to be inherited by a girl, which is why I'm so healthy....not lol But a new baby in the family is always exsiting, I hope she has an easier pregnancy this time.

There should be a Scully Spike story, gen, pairing, anything would be awesome. I remember watcing the x-files when I was probablt too young and loving the show and Spike is pretty damn awesome.

That is actually smart thinking. If you have a girl, you would always be worried for her about those things.

I was about 15 when The X-Files started, so I was the perfect age for it. I didn't get into Buffy until years and years later though but I was immediately a Spike!girl as soon as the first time he rolled into town.

I found a Spike-Scully Gen fic that is awesome!! The second story on the page!.

I'm most worried about passing on a joint condition me and my Mum have and endromitriosis, because it cases so much trouble and each generation of the women in my family seems to get in younger and a little worse.

My dad let us watch it when my mum was in hospital, I think I was 10, but I loved it.

Buffy wouldn't have been the same with out Spike, I love that he was meant to be in one ep, then one series and they kept keeping him because of how popular he was.

Thanks for the link, I'll be giving that a read :)

I am so glad you had such a great (post-)birthday weekend! And congratulations to you, Auntie Dodge; girl, girl, GIRL! :P

If you need something to read when you tire of the new game, you might try the crush tag on my journal - the most recent one will have links to all the others. But I totally get it if you want to skip most of them, as they are from eleven different fandoms (or will be once I post them all).

Talk to you soon!
dodger_sister: fatherdodger_sister on June 4th, 2012 08:19 pm (UTC)
Thank you!! I am so impatient - I want the new baby to be here NOW!!

I saw you had posted some new pieces to the Crush fics! I have been tagging and saving everything for when I am caught up on everything else. But let's be honest, I will never be tired of this new video game - (now that you mentioned it here, I am all, "Is the baseball game over yet? Can I go play my game now?" - cuz it doesn't look like the Tigers are going to win anyways, boo that).
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on June 4th, 2012 10:33 pm (UTC)
You are so addicted! *grin* Well, if you got stuck watching baseball, I hope the Tigers pulled it out; if not, here's to your fun game adventures. :)

Usually I record the baseball game and then in the afternoon, while my Sis is at work, I turn on my laptop and park in front of the TV. I let the game run while I catch up on comments and LJ. But at that point, I had reached the conclusion that the Tigers were not going to win (they did not) and I started thinking about my video game and like the siren's call, it beckoned me. But I still had two innings left to go.

Today I hung out with Spike (wearing nothing but a Speedo) and Jayne Cobb. We had a water gun fight and Spike won - which I call foul play because no way Spike beats Jayne in anything involving guns! (yes, I may be having delusions that my game is real life - shut up! You mean I am not on a beautiful tropical island resort? Damn. Okay, yes, I am addicted).
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on June 7th, 2012 03:50 am (UTC)
No way Spike would beat Jayne with guns. Maybe in hand-to-hand. How did YOU do in the water pistol fight?

There are much worse realities to have than living on a tropical resort island with hot people in Speedos, you know.
dodger_sister: spike the vampiredodger_sister on June 8th, 2012 01:43 am (UTC)
How did YOU do in the water pistol fight?

Oh, I suck. I always lose at the water gun fight but some people you just have to play with them anyways because like, Scully or Uhura or Jayne, how do you pass up playing a game with them that involves guns? You don't.

There are much worse realities to have than living on a tropical resort island with hot people in Speedos, you know.

True that. Except my family all has their Miis in there too, so I ran into my older brother in a Speedo and my mom in a bikini and that was not okay - even in a fake video game reality. Today I hung out with Cas, Spike and Dean together - awesome.

LOL how does that even WORK, though? It is like, suddenly you're in a shooter game inside of the vacation game, or what? (can you tell I never ever play video games of any sort?)

Oh, god, no - that kind of interactive game would freak my shit. So, the avatars just wander around and do things even when you're not playing? Or were they playing at the time, too?

dodger_sister: geeksdodger_sister on June 8th, 2012 02:00 am (UTC)

Pretty much. You walk around and there are people that you can go up to and they will ask you if you want to play their game. If you click 'yes' for the water gun fight, then suddenly you are in like a beach arena where you are playing water guns with other random computer-operated people. Then you point your controller at the screen to shoot and when the game is over, you go back to walking around or riding your ATV.

So, the avatars just wander around and do things even when you're not playing?

Yes. Some avatars the computer has programmed in and then we made a bunch of our own (so that our fannish people would be on our baseball teams) and they will appear in the game too. The only person who won't is my sister because she is using her Mii on a saved game of Go!Vacation that she is playing too. Make sense?

I understand now! ('I actually got that reference,' tee hee!) That's pretty freakin' cool.

Congratulations on the upcoming new addition to the family!! And yay for a good weekend. :D

(I'd say Spike and Scully hanging out is funny cos she doesn't believe in him and now I have a whole conversation with Scully denying Spike's vampire-ness in her Scully way running through my head. 'Mulder, he's obviously suffering from delusions and has some kind of bone disease causing the deformity on his forehead. One is most likely a direct result of the other.')
dodger_sister: spike the vampiredodger_sister on June 4th, 2012 08:24 pm (UTC)
Thank you!! I am happy to have another baby I can spoil rotten!

I think part of my fascination with Spike/Scully is just my standard, "They are both hot. They should kiss," argument. Cus they are both super hot!

But omg...'Mulder, he's obviously suffering from delusions and has some kind of bone disease causing the deformity on his forehead. One is most likely a direct result of the other.'

THIS. This sounds so much like Scully. Oh oh oh I want this so hard now. YES.

Lol, I've got it in my head now too. I can see it clearly, if I can manage a good Mulder I'll write it up and post it. You seem to have a knack for making my brain come up with some strange things. (that's a good thing)

AWESOME. You do that!! I am always afraid to write X-Files fic but not because I think finding my Mulder-voice would be hard, but because I am intimidated to write Scully.

You seem to have a knack for making my brain come up with some strange things. (that's a good thing)

/evil plan laugh/ Excellent.

Sounds like you had a great weekend :-) Yay for a new addition to the family (lucky kid!) and I can't wait to hear your descriptions of your nephew learning about this big brother thing.

Moving on feels strange, doesn't it? My son moved today from a town 40 minutes away to one 80 minutes away..."over an hour" feels really weird. Don't know how people deal with kids moving cross-country or abroad.

Hugs and it'll be fine, I'm sure :-)

Thank you!! I am super psyched about the upcoming new baby!

and I can't wait to hear your descriptions of your nephew learning about this big brother thing.

Oh man, I hadn't even thought of that! That kid is such a riot, I am sure it will be awesome to watch him discover how a baby works.

Moving on feels strange, doesn't it?

It is so strange. Like during the day it is fine because it just feels ike The BFF is at work - but come dinnertime, when me and The Sis sit down without her, I feel off like I forgot to do something important today. Thankfully she is only 30 minutes away and not a whole state or something.

My son moved today from a town 40 minutes away to one 80 minutes away..."over an hour" feels really weird. Don't know how people deal with kids moving cross-country or abroad.

I know! No wonder my mom freaked out when my brother, at the age of 19, got on a bus and headed to NY. I didn't even like it when The Nephew moved from 15 minutes away to an hour away and he isn't even my kid!!

I was going to ask how your son likes the new roommate but the post I read yesterday from you, it sounds like he never even sees her.

Awwww. You know, we don't know what the rest of the family will do, but we always want to make sure we can find The BFF.

I got my sister this book for her birthday (next week) and it is really interesting. It has things in there like how to make your own soap and it also has basic medical care info. Plus there is stuff like what to do in case of a financial disaster, like if there is a major stock market crash. And what to do in a blackout. Plus all your standard plagues and natural disasters and so forth.

Ha! I love it. My birthday is next month and I'm putting this on my Amazon wish list.
