Ficage In June.
My word count for the month of June! I almost came in with my lowest numbers yet this year, but I pushed myself on the last day of the month and went over the edge. I was at 3,100 words on the 30th of June and I sat down to finish the story I had started earlier that week. By the time I went to bed, I had written that story and another story - a total of 2,600 words for the day. I didn't do enough on The BFF's fic this month but I did finally write another piece in the Burrowing 'verse for Harry Potter. I'd been wanting to do that for about four years now. I also completed my first Leverage fic ever! Who would have thought that the first Leverage fic I finished would turn out to be an Eliot-Parker friendship fic? Also, not my first X-Men fic ever, but my first one in the subgenre of 'First Class' was completed this month. All in all, a pretty diverse month, even for me.

Here is my approximate word count for the month.

June, 2012
Week One: 950 words of X-Men: First Class fic. Completed. (already posted!)
Week Two: 1,050 words of Secret Crossover fic.
Week Three: 600 words of Secret Crossover fic.
Week Four: 2,050 words of Wee!Weasley Harry Potter fic. Completed.
1,050 words of Leverage Eliot-Parker fic. Completed.

5,700 words written in June!

On a side note: 41,800 words so far this year!

June, 2010
Not So Bad, After All
My, thus far, one and only Glee fic. Is anybody surprised it is about Puck? Thought not. This is a look at a future for Puck wherein he became a hunter of the supernatural. But somehow he manages to live that life with some normalcy and as he reflects in this story, he got pretty damn lucky. Also, with the addition of one of my favorite original characters to date, Little Noah.

Oil Spills and Poltergeists
The first Comedy Central Real Person fic I ever wrote. I didn't know then that it was an actual fandom out there, but I should have. Rule #34 after all. Little did I know that it would not be the last CCRPF fic I ever wrote. This has Jon/Stephen as talk show hosts by day and supernatural hunters by night. Yes, I was going through a phase of writing SPN-style fic. I have recently been told that I did a good job of capturing the little things that make both of these guys so very them.

The Transmission Of Dynamic Images Via Electromagnetic Signals
CW RPS fic in five various styles; Justified starring JDM, Psych starring Chad and Michael, Glee starring Misha, Mad Men starring, uh...everyone, and Supernatural starring Jensen, Jared & Misha. Also lots of guest stars throughout. This story is like a little tease of things you may want longer versions of after you read it. I had way too much fun writing this one. Also, I put a lot of thought into the titles at the beginning of each section and I amuse myself a lot.

Misha Collins, The Fangirls’ Devil
This is a drabble based on a conversation inspired by the convention video of Misha explaining the concept of slash fiction to Mark Pellegrino. The running theory for this fic was that Misha does that stuff on purpose just to see the ripple effect it has. Mostly this story is funny because Misha is slightly, mostly, kind of eeeeevil - it's why I love him.

When It Comes Down To It
This is a fusion-crossoverish fic with SPN and The 4400. When the giant ball of light is approaching outside Seattle, ala the beginning of The 4400, John is suddenly desperate to reunite with his youngest son. Bobby talks him through it, as always. I loved being able to write John's side of things after Sam goes off to Stanford. Between that and the thinky-thoughts that came about from crossing The 4400 with Supernatural, I kind of love this fic all over again every time I read it. I am not even kidding, after a long conversation of nostalgia about The 4400, I went to bed and dreamed that I was back in school. There, I faked sick so I could go to the nurse's station and write fanfiction. This is the fic I was writing in my dream.

June, 2011
I actually posted zero stories in June of last year. What's up with that? I apparently posted five in 2010, but none at all in 2011. I am unsure why, since I didn't go on vacation until the very end of the month. Hmmm, maybe I was busy trying to finish that birthday story for my sister that I never did finish. At any rate, it is fun to scroll through my archive and see what I was up to last year.

So far this month I have started a new Leverage fic and written some Falling Skies fic. I have so many thoughts about Falling Skies, I need to make a post. We will just say that I wrote some Tom Mason/Dan Weaver fic and it got weird and though I really like it a lot actually, I am not sure I am brave enough to post it. I would probably have to make a new 'kink' tag for it. Let's just leave it at that. (Now all I have done is intrigued you all, haven't I?)

Go you! I think tracking my writing is helping me more than it's hurting me, so I'm going to keep on doing it.
dodger_sister: fanficdodger_sister on July 20th, 2012 09:05 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I know tracking my writing has helped me. I have already written more this year than I did last year, I am sure. Of course, I am still nowhere near what I wrote in 2010, but so much of that was like a fresh wave after detox that I doubt it will ever be bested.

I can see how sometimes keeping track of your writing could be discouraging, on those weeks when you just have so many days where you don't have it in you. I couldn't do everyday writing like you do - I tend to have lulls and then great big bursts and I don't think that really works with a daily count.
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on July 20th, 2012 09:31 pm (UTC)
Truth be told, I haven't been doing every day writing for a while. The sign of when that changed is when I started listing word counts by project instead of by day. *sigh*

I really am not ready to go back to work in a week. I think that's what's got me jammed up at the moment. At least today I opened up some story documents. Haven't written in them, but at least they're opened, you know?
dodger_sister: fanficdodger_sister on July 21st, 2012 03:19 am (UTC)
Oh dear, it sounds like you are having a serious stress-jam on your writing. I can't blame you - the prospect of you having to return back to work is kinda bumming me out too. But I think it is good that you count non-fiction writing as well in your counts. I think if I did 'every day' writing that I would do that too. Because you write 1,000 words of blahblahing about the latest movie you saw and then you don't have any time left in the day to write fiction as well.

I actually encouraged a friend to start keeping track of her word counts to help motive her more and I told her how you do it - counting correspondence and school stuff and I recced she try that, so that when she goes back to college classes after break, she can count papers and all the writing she does in class (especially since she takes several creative writing/poetry type classes). She was onboard with the idea.
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on July 21st, 2012 04:31 am (UTC)
I'm glad that it's a strategy that might work for your friend, too.

I dun wanna go back to woooooooork, let me reture noooooooooooow!

*pumps fist in air ala Bender in Breakfast Club* way to get it done there in the end bb! I'm looking forward to your Falling Skies and X-Men First Class stuff.

I have so many thoughts about Falling Skies, I need to make a post. and I'll be right there with you with all my thinky thoughts

See icon. :) (I swear, I didn't go find that icon just for this conversation - I already had it uploaded and was gleeful to have an excuse to use it!)

Thank you, babe!! I don't know what overtook me but I was happy to have pulled that shit out in the end.

I'll tell you straight up that my Falling Skies fic is not thinky-thoughts or epic apocalypses and stuff like you would expect from a fic based on that show. I mean, it is ideally suited for insightful looks at humanity and great action and...I wrote porn about Tom when he was handcuffed by Weaver. So...yeah. ;)

I am trying to catch up on all the Falling Skies episodes this weekend (am still two episodes behind) so I can make a coherent post but just now I watched the epsiode where they find the group of kids and...OMG. I won't say more in case you haven't watched that one yet, but I am so happy they are finally doing something with Matt - that one scene was so fucking intense, I was freaking out. (if you watched it, you know the one).

Leverage fic!! I'd love to read that and well done on the word count!!
dodger_sister: fanficdodger_sister on July 20th, 2012 09:21 pm (UTC)
Thanks, babe!

I have finished one Leverage fic now and started another - so maybe it'll be a new fandom from me. We'll see. Now I just have to get around to posting some things.
lizibabeslizibabes on July 20th, 2012 09:29 pm (UTC)
I'm a big Elliot fan :D So I'll be keeping an eye out for that post.
dodger_sister: fanficdodger_sister on July 21st, 2012 03:13 am (UTC)
Well you'll be happy to know then that all of the Leverage stories I have ever worked on (started/finished/plotted out) are from Eliot's POV or told through his narrative. Idk why, but I seem to channel him very easily.

Huh...now I wonder what that says about me that I channel Eliot Spencer so easily.

Uh, YES?! :p I have no idea what fandom it is, but you had me at kink. ;)

Yay for pushing yourself so you got over the edge! *waves pom-poms* Maybe I should do the same, but I'm nursing a headache and have major scaredy feels over moving to England, so the writing isn't going so well right now. *sigh*
dodger_sister: fangirldodger_sister on September 6th, 2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
Oh, babe, Falling Skies is a show you would love. It is about a group of people from Boston after an alien invasion. Most people are dead, the aliens are using children as slaves and these people are just trying to survive. It centers around Tom Mason (played by Noah Wyle who is a total hottie in this) as a father of three teenage boys. It's like a family drama mixed with an alien apocalypse. It's very much about family at the heart of it. It has great supportng characters and in second season they start branching out into showing more of the extras and making it more ensenmeble like and yet still manages to keep that central theme of 'family'. Family apocalypse, baby!

My story is about Noah Wyle's character and Will Patton's character (look him up, I know you'll know him when you see him). At one point they have to have the dad, Tom, in those plastic cop-ties that they use as handcuffs, because Reasons, and um, I was all, "What if he has to pee?" And then...omg, girl, watersports isn't even a thing for me. I can't believe I just admitted to you that I wrote a handjob that comes in the middle of someone peeing. But his hands are in handcuffs...so...so.../headdesk/

Maybe I should do the same, but I'm nursing a headache and have major scaredy feels over moving to England, so the writing isn't going so well right now. *sigh*

I figured you were probably getting nervous. I won't tell you not to be nervous because I know you will be anyway. But remember, you are awesome! And I know it is easier to be awesome on the internet than in-person but you can be awesome and make friends and take England by storm no problem - I know you can! And LJ will still be here for you, so it's like taking a bunch of your friends with you when you go. <3

Family apocalypse, baby!

*starts downloading the first ep* That sounds awesome! I've actually thought of checking it out before, but all I knew was "sci-fi" so I wasn't all that motivated. You have officially recruited me. :)

I can't believe I just admitted to you that I wrote a handjob that comes in the middle of someone peeing.

Bb, you just made me giggle out loud. Handcuffs = hot, although the watersports are really not my thing either. :p

but you can be awesome and make friends and take England by storm no problem - I know you can!

I'm getting a bit choked up here. *hugs you* Thank you for that, bb, it was really good to hear (read) and I needed it. And yes, it feels good to know that LJ and my internet friends will still be there, just as close/far away as always. <3
dodger_sister: fangirldodger_sister on September 18th, 2012 07:53 pm (UTC)

YES! Family apocalypse is awesome! It is a summer show so there is only something like ten episodes a season, so you aren't too far behind - twenty episodes now or so. First season does have it's problems, mostly that sometimes the survivors make stupid decisions that have you wondering how they managed to survive for this long. But the characters are interesting enough and the family dynamics are great (and omg does Noah Wyle playing a dad work so well for me) that it was a fun to show to watch even though sometimes I had to yell at the TV. They get a lot, lot smarter in second season and also the unit of surviviors really pulls together as a family, which is a theme I really love, as you know.

Bb, you just made me giggle out loud. Handcuffs = hot, although the watersports are really not my thing either. :p

I know, I don't like watersports either! It was just a stray thought I had watching the guy in the little plastic handcuff things and looking at the group of guys around him and I thought, "What if he has to pee? That guy won't help him out. Neither will that guy there. Who would help him out?" and before I knew it, I had porned all over the place. What the hell?

I'm getting a bit choked up here. *hugs you* Thank you for that, bb, it was really good to hear (read) and I needed it. And yes, it feels good to know that LJ and my internet friends will still be there, just as close/far away as always. <3

Awwwwww. /sigh/ I still wish you lived closer to me but I am always here through the internets!

Hehe, well, first seasons usually have their issues (OK, so not Firefly. Or SPN. Or a bunch of other shows that I just thought of.). It's good to know they wise up for the second season, though, so I have something to look forward to. :)

"What if he has to pee? That guy won't help him out. Neither will that guy there. Who would help him out?" and before I knew it, I had porned all over the place. What the hell?

Aaaand giggling again. :D I can totally see that scenario, though. In general, I mean, since I haven't seen the show yet. And it would totally end in porn.

I still wish you lived closer to me but I am always here through the internets!

*hugs you* And I really appreciate that. You're the best! <3

Hehe, well, first seasons usually have their issues (OK, so not Firefly. Or SPN. Or a bunch of other shows that I just thought of.)

You know though, I don't mind if a show has a little shaky first season because that is usually when it gets better and better as it goes along. It is the shows that start out great from the very beginning that go steadily downhill each season (I'm looking at you, Glee!) It's why I kept hanging in there on Teen Wolf even though it started out a little slow for me - because everyone assured me that season two is the bomb! I'm about to find out anyway. It's also kind of why there is a part of me that is glad that Firefly didn't stick around long enough to get sucky or contrived. I mean, I did want more Firefly but at least every single episode we have now is perfect and it ends on the perfect note.

Right? Buffy for example. It's funny, because the Cousin BFF (I'm gonna start using your type of designations for people now, they are good) talked that show up to her family for so long, and then when she was gonna show them one ep she was like "wtf do I do, the first season does NOT represent the show as a whole?!"

It's why I kept hanging in there on Teen Wolf even though it started out a little slow for me - because everyone assured me that season two is the bomb! I'm about to find out anyway.

Fingers crossed that you do like it! Annie started watching it the other day, and now she's all converted. Score! :D

This, so much. I sometimes think that if Firefly had gotten to go on, it would never have reached the classic status it has today. As it is, every single ep is just... woah, and that makes it fucking awesome. It would be heartbreaking for that show to have mediocre episodes.
dodger_sister: fangirldodger_sister on November 11th, 2012 01:34 am (UTC)
It's funny, because the Cousin BFF (I'm gonna start using your type of designations for people now, they are good)

heehee LOL They are good. And it somehow feels intrusive to use someone's real name without their permission - idk, I always wished I could have thought of a suitable codename for Kevin, but at least he has a very common name. Also, it's easier for people to remember who you are talking about.

"wtf do I do, the first season does NOT represent the show as a whole?!"

Oh goodness no. First season Buffy is so 'High School' feeling and also the major bad guy of the season is kind of cheesy. It gets so much better once Spike shows up! However, the thing about first season is a) It is only half a season and b) the characters are still there for you to fall in love with. The stories are a little shaky but I dare you to get through the first season and not be madly in love with one of the Scoobies (mine was Xander, but Giles and Willow are also good, depending on your preference!)

Fingers crossed that you do like it!

I am still making my way through Leverage season 5, so I haven't started Teen Wolf 2 yet, but...if the last two episodes of the first season are anything to go by, I am gonna LOVE season two!! You know how you can tell I am really getting into a show? I start trash-talking the TV. That alpha and Stiles? Omg. I was like, "That's right alpha-bitch! He is not gonna leave Lydia's unconscious body there! He's not afraid to stare your ass down! That's true love right there!" And the end, when Derek becomes the alpha? Ooooooooh, so good, baby, so good.

Annie started watching it the other day, and now she's all converted. Score! :D

OMG. Teen Wolf: It's like a virus plague - it keeps spreading. Soon it will have everyone!!!!

This, so much. I sometimes think that if Firefly had gotten to go on, it would never have reached the classic status it has today. As it is, every single ep is just... woah, and that makes it fucking awesome. It would be heartbreaking for that show to have mediocre episodes.

I know so many people who hated the Serenity movie and I feel like that is what would have happened if Firefly had kept going - it would have lost some of those loyal followers. I mean, I wish it had gotten like two seasons at least, but maybe this is for the best. They aired them out of order here in the US originally, but now if you watch the episodes on the DVD, in the order they were meant to be seen in, you end on that awesome episode where at the end, River asks permission from the captain to come aboard and Mal grants her permission - which is kind of the perfect end. The series starts with them sneaking aboard Mal's ship and him not even wanting them there and planning on throwing them out at the first stop and then...it ends with Mal officially inviting them onboard his ship and making them family. - Omg, I just got all teary-eyed writing that. I LOVE FIREFLY! Okay.
wolfrider89: Lev H/P/Ewolfrider89 on January 28th, 2013 10:46 pm (UTC)
And it somehow feels intrusive to use someone's real name without their permission

Yeah, that's what I always feel. I wrote a travelling blog when I was in Australia in which I used people's real names, and it got back to them, and it was all so effing awkward. And I know that I wouldn't want people to use my name on the internet without my permission, so I'm just not gonna. Your way is awesome, anyway. :)

First season Buffy is so 'High School' feeling and also the major bad guy of the season is kind of cheesy.

"You've got fruit punch mouth."

Yeah, I had to quote that. Because. :p But yes, I agree. I love the show, and I love the season and the characters, but if you're looking for just one ep to show someone, season one is not where I would go first.

I am still making my way through Leverage season 5, so I haven't started Teen Wolf 2 yet

Leverage is a totally valid reason! Me and the Roommate watched the last episode ever when I was home over Christmas. God, it was so fucking good. Everything that is great about Leverage, times ten. Not to spoil or anything, but awesome. ;)

if the last two episodes of the first season are anything to go by, I am gonna LOVE season two!!

:D Don't you just love the alpha and his evilness? And Derek becoming the alpha had be going asdfghjkl!

Teen Wolf: It's like a virus plague - it keeps spreading. Soon it will have everyone!!!!

It really is like a plague! It feels like more than half the SPN fandom has joined the Teen Wolf fandom already. I mean, twentysomething is in it! (Short Skirts 'verse author, Dean/Cas? I'm assuming everyone has read it. :p)

Speaking of - I wore my Stilinski Beacon Hills High sweater today, and bam! Fangirl comes up to me and says hi. That's never happened to me before! It was even someone who I'd said hi to once or twice before, and then suddenly we had something to talk about. It was awesome. :)

I mean, I wish it had gotten like two seasons at least, but maybe this is for the best.

I don't want it to be for the best, but at the same time, it probably is. I LOVE FIREFLY TOO! And I agree about the ending, it's such a perfect place to stop. I mean, don't get me wrong, I kind of love Serenity too, but the show's ending was... yeah. Good stuff.
dodger_sister: leveragedodger_sister on January 30th, 2013 02:00 am (UTC)
I wrote a travelling blog when I was in Australia in which I used people's real names, and it got back to them, and it was all so effing awkward.

Oh god, no, that must of sucked. And yeah, it's one thing to share your own pesonal info or life with people on the internet, it's a whole other thing to share someone else's. Just...no.

'-This is just too much. I mean, yesterday my life's like, 'Uh-oh, pop quiz.' Today it's 'Rain of Toads'.-'

Yeah, I had to quote back at you!

but if you're looking for just one ep to show someone, season one is not where I would go first.

Maybe the Hyena episode - it's my favorite Xander episode and it's in first season.

I still haven't finished Leverage season five! I was working on it and then it got canceled and I just...can't. It's like if I don't finish the season, somehow the show won't end. I never said it made sense! ;) But I watched another ep today, so I'm still working on it.

And Derek becoming the alpha had be going asdfghjkl!

I have never been so attracted to Derek as when he turned around with his eyes glowing and said, "I'm the alpha now." I rewatched that moment an unhealthy amount!

I mean, twentysomething is in it! (Short Skirts 'verse author, Dean/Cas? I'm assuming everyone has read it. :p)

Uh, I have NOT. What is it about? (I was going to say 'where can I find it?' but then I was like, "uh, duh, probably at her journal").

Speaking of - I wore my Stilinski Beacon Hills High sweater today, and bam! Fangirl comes up to me and says hi.

DUDE, that's awesome!!! Idk that's ever happened to me except for my SPN shirt where someone saw Jensen's face and yelled out, "OMG, Eric Brady!" lol I keep wearing my Sunnydale High tee hoping someone will get it. Fangirls unite!

I mean, don't get me wrong, I kind of love Serenity too, but the show's ending was... yeah.

I love Serenity the movie too, especially Mal finally deciding to stand up and fight, but it didn't quite fit with the rest of Firefly (or maybe I'm just mad they killed people I love!) but the ending of Firefly is always how I see that 'verse ending - because it doesn't end, they are all still out there in space, flying around on their ship together. :)
