Since Canada Came Along!
So the visit with The Canadians went very well! They are better and better houseguests each time they stay. I have very few gripes and the main one was that I didn’t get to see enough of them! Also, they didn’t say what their plans were going to be, when just knowing when it was they intended to be at the house was all I needed, as it helps enormously with anxiety to know my schedule ahead of time. And they wanted to go out to eat with us, but they didn’t ask until Tuesday when I had therapy and then Wednesday we had to take The Nephew to his ballgame, so I felt bad about that.

But I did get to spend a nice evening on Monday playing the Wii with my brother and his wife. We turned it on for the kids but they lost interest quickly, so we ended up playing for like an hour and that was actually really fun. But hoyboy are those two competitive with each other! Also, my s-i-l said to me when they were leaving, “But we did not get to watch any of your teen shows this time!” - (in the past it has been The OC and One Tree Hill) - and I said, “Oh, I have an episode of Teen Wolf we could have watched,” and my brother said, “Uh, we have Teen Wolf in Canada,” all disgusted like and his wife yelled at him, “But it is not the same! I like when she tells me who everyone is and sleeping with and stuff! It is funnier that way!” That made me smile.

As for the kids, The Canadian Niece (age 3 ½) is a little dork. At the fireworks, people had these lanterns that you light and they float up in the sky. At first we didn’t know what they were and someone said, “Maybe it’s a UFO, like aliens.” After that, every time we pointed one out, TCN would go, “Ahahahaha, Aliens! Aliens!” like it was the funniest thing she’d ever heard. Also, at the cookout, my cousin - (picture a big-ass linebacker looking guy) - was blowing bubbles in my niece’s face and she yelled at him, “Time out! Time out!” so he went and sat on the back steps like he was in trouble. Then he goes, “I have to go to the bathroom, can I get up?” and she said ‘yes’ and when he went inside, my aunt tells her, “That was a trick! He just wanted to get up!”. As soon as he comes back, TCN marches right over to him and points at the back steps and yells, “Time out!” and then runs over and tells my aunt, “I put him in time out.” And in the game of ‘baby doll goes caca’, my sister got a granola bar and crumbled it up and put in the diaper like the baby had pooed. TCN had a face to make at my sister for being so silly. The next day she went to play with the baby doll and discovered my sister had put a Hershey’s Kiss in there - you know, cuz the baby went caca!

The Canadian Nephew (age 2) is also awesome - he does all these faces and voices, like if you ask him to do The Exorcist, he makes this strange gurgling noise and for Monster he makes this crazy face where his eyes all bulge out and he pushes his jaw forward - it’s hysterical! I swear this kid is going to be a comedian when he grows up. His favorite thing to do was to play with the drum set and have me yell, “Rockstar! Rockstar!” and then do the ‘Rocking Kiss’ pose with the tongue and fingers. He thought that was the best game ever.

We also went to The Nephew’s (age 7) last ball game of the year, as he needed a ride, and then he came home with us for the night. He got this awesome hit, all the way to shortstop - (most of the kids don’t hit past the pitching mound) - and the entire crowd went crazy for him, even people on the other team. I felt very proud. He also fielded a great ball that bounced off his chest and into his glove and he said later it actually hurt, but he didn’t hesitate, just pulled the ball from his glove and threw it straight to first base. We took him to the fireworks with The Canadians after that and the two little ones were barely awake and The Nephew was more interested in fireflies.

So, that was our week, more or less, and I am glad to have my house and my schedule back, but I miss the kids already!

Your SIL is right - it's more fun with someone who knows the deal to watch with! My dear friend and I used to watch Buffy together every week... and if I couldn't go over, we watched on the phone together! Shame on your brother for not getting this! :P

Kids love power - watch out for the TCN if she loves timeout that much! (Also, do we need to make a list of fics for your sister about those things that you and I don't want to read?)

Did the Canadian Nephew come up with any other new faces while you played with him? Those sound like fun!

Spiderman, Iceman, and Wolverine would have been very proud of The Nephew for hitting hard and true, and playing through the pain. You should tell him so.

Now go rest! :P

It's more fun to also be the person introducing someone to a new show, especially crazy shows like One Tree Hill where I was like, "Oh, they're brothers, but he used to date the blond and the other is dating the brunette but cheating on her with the blond and the first brother is secretly married to the other brother's best friend..." (yes, those are real things that happened in the same episode of OTH). Which of course just makes s-i-l laugh at the ridiculousness and then ask a bunch of zany questions!

My brother does not understand TV shows like this. He is never interested in anything that even slightly resembles a soap-operaish storyline. But oh yes, watching over the phone with some...That's always a blast!

Apparently her Barbies spend a lot of time in time-out - it's her favorite game. And yes, she does have a love of power - I fear for her parents sanity when she becomes a teen!

(Also, do we need to make a list of fics for your sister about those things that you and I don't want to read?)

ahahahaha My sister's response - (who btw, is the most vanilla kink person I know in RL) - was, "It was a baby doll! Shut up!" (I give her so much shit over her train-wreck fascination with alpha/omegas too, even though I am the one that actually reads that stuff! Poor sis).

Did the Canadian Nephew come up with any other new faces while you played with him?

Not really, it was more like a stand up comedy routine where his dad would shout out the names he and his wife had made up for the weird faces the kid makes and then my nephew would make the face until he got everybody to laugh for him. (wouldn't stop until you laughed!) I'm telling you...comedian!

Spiderman, Iceman, and Wolverine would have been very proud of The Nephew for hitting hard and true, and playing through the pain. You should tell him so.

Awww, that's true, they would have! (kind of makes me want to write a fic for him where they all play on a baseball team together).

Now go rest!

I've been getting a mix of resting and writing this week. I really wanted to write last week while they were here - I had Ideas and stuff - but was always too tired to work on anything. I've made up for it this week, but I still have to get into bed every night at like 9, just to catch up on sleep.

I fail to see how the age of the doll makes a difference - she created toy poop! And wasted chocolate to do it! These two things together suggest a seriously skewed sense of priority to me! :P

Mutant ball! You know it would be fun to write!

I'm glad you're getting rest and writing - yay for you!

LOL You know what? When she put the chocolate in the diaper, I thought the same thing..."Yeah, it's funny but what are you going to do with that Hershey Kiss now? Gimme!" lol

Now that I've said it, I really like the X-Men baseball team idea. I think I might do it for him, as an extra gift. After I write the Science!Bros fic he has requested. I never get a chance to write him stories that he hasn't prompted me for because he keeps coming up with so many plot bunnies all the time! 8)

I'm sure he'll be thrilled to have whatever you write for him - prompted or not.

They sound fun and I"m glad you had a great visit. I had a friend over this weekend and ended up feeling sick but it was wonderful. Its always nice to have visitors.

It was actually a really sweet visit with The Canadians. I hope to call them this weekend - now that the kids are a little older, I want to call more often so they don't forget that I'm the cool aunt! lol

I saw your post about hacking and coughing. I hope you are feeling better by now! At least it didn't ruin your visit with your friend, which sounds like a lovely way to spend your weekend. :)

your description of the last ball game of the year made me tear up...just so you know - sounds like everyone had a wonderful time ;)

Awwwww, that's so sweet. You have me beaming like a proud aunt all over again! It was a really nice evening game with a good crowd (for teeball anyways) and since I saw the first game of the year, I could see how each and every kid had gotten better over the summer. None were better than The Nephew, but I may be biased on that! ;)

Using my 'sports' icon for appropriate reasons. :)

Awww it sounds like it was a really great time.

I think we are similar in I like to know what I'm doing before I have to do it, I'm not great with last minute plans. I like to be organised, so I can see how that would be a little stressful.

Your sis in law is right, watching shows with a fan girl around is just better.

The kids sound adorable. I'm glad you had a good time.

It was, indeed, a really great visit with my brother and his family. The kids warmed up to us all a lot faster this time too!

I think we are similar in I like to know what I'm doing before I have to do it

I do okay with last minute plans on a rare occasion, like someone calling me up and saying, "I'm in town, do you want to grab lunch?" because even in that situation, if I was having a high stress/anxiety day, I would say 'no'. With this visit with my brother, it was everyday, not knowing if they would be walking in the door in ten minutes or two hours - which meant I couldn't plan anything, not even like, "Catch up on Flist, read a chapter of my book, then they'll be home and I can play with the kids!" Which was all I really needed.

Your sis in law is right, watching shows with a fan girl around is just better.

Right?! Especially just ridiculous teen shows where I can be like, "That's his good friend's baby mamma but he's sleeping with her but he doesn't know that his ex-girlfriend is sleeping with the baby daddy guy and that his brother is babysitting the actually baby because he and his secret teen wife think they might be pregnant and they are 'practicing'. - Yes, all things that happened on One Tree Hill! Which is just fun to be explaining all that to someone who doesn't watch the show, especially when she thinks it is so funny!

The kids sound adorable.

They really are! It didn't used to bother me so much that they live so far away but after this visit I am like, "Dammit, no, I want them to come over and play with me today! Why do they live 14 hours away?"

My reply is so late. I've not been on my laptop in days because I've been too ill.

Wow I didn't know one tree hill was so complicated, secret teen wife?

Today I had to explain Hanibal to a friend, which was funny. "well this guy who eats people...."

Aww you must miss them a lot.

Oh no! With the flu or is it the health issues knocking you on your ass? I always worry when you aren't around for a little bit of time because I wonder if it is your health keeping you away.

Wow I didn't know one tree hill was so complicated, secret teen wife?

One Tree Hill is so crazy and I swear I didn't even realize how crazy until I was trying to explain what was happening one day to my sister and it is just a mess of who is dating who and who is related to who, lol. Yep, two teenagers went to some state that lets 16 year olds get married without a parent and got secretly married and then kept it from most everybody for awhile. It was a big plotline! (secret teen spouses in my icon!)

Today I had to explain Hanibal to a friend, which was funny. "well this guy who eats people...."

lol Omg, that would be so messed up, also with the like, 'he is this guy's psychiatrist and then this guy is that guy's psychiatrist...' 8)

Aww you must miss them a lot.

I do! And I just found out tonight that The Canadian Nephew was in the hospital yesterday with an infection that they think he got from drinking contaminated water. He is home now and doing better and they have him on antibiotics, but I don't like him sick and far away from my arms that want to hug him!

edit: stupid lj only posting half of my comment!

I went to a theme park, my body did not react well to it at all. I spent about five days hardly able to walk and throwing up. Sometimes my body really sucks. It's sweet of you to worry when I'm not around *hugs*

That sounds like it would have been pretty cool to watch.

Oh no, poor thing. That's awful for anyone, but I think it's worse to be sick like that when your a kid. I hope his parents spoil him rotten.
