Snowpocalypse Or Snowmaggeddon?
The local weather report for my area of Michigan is as follows:

"It is a one/two punch with heavy snowfall followed by the coldest air since February 2007. Snow will be flying tonight through Monday. The heaviest snowfall will happen Sunday into Sunday night. Wind chills by Monday may be close to -30 across the area. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning starting tonight and running through Sunday night, followed by a Wind Chill Watch early Monday through Tuesday afternoon. A cold front will drop into the area this evening and touch off 2-5” of snow by Sunday morning. During the day Sunday a strong area of low pressure will move into Ohio and on into Canada. This low will bring a large area of heavy snow Sunday into Sunday night. 5-9” of snow are possible on Sunday. By Monday morning 7-14” of snow are possible. Sunday night into Monday temperatures nose dive to near zero. Winds of 25-35 MPH will cause blowing and drifting snow and bring wind chills near 30 below zero. The strong winds will start to die down Tuesday, but the frigid air will hold on across the area. Travel conditions will go from bad to dangerous across the area tonight into Sunday. Drifting snow and poor visibilities are expected. Strong winds will continue the blowing and drifting snow into Monday."

My point is this: Of all the apocalypses, I’ve always known Ice Age Apocalypse would be the worst. Unless you’re stuck in the New York Public Library with Jake Gyllenhaal. Now that would be the way to go. Stay safe out there, people!

Hey, so long as my hydro doesn't go out for a week, I'm feeling A-okay about this storm!

Did you guys get hit by the ice storm a couple weeks ago?

Hey, so long as my hydro doesn't go out for a week, I'm feeling A-okay about this storm!

I read your post about losing your hydro. That was crazy. Especially how the town kept losing it in random bursts like that. But yeah, if we'd lost our power (thank goodness we didn't) in this latest round of freezing temps, we'd have had to hit a hotel or something because even under the covers together, you'd be dead in an hour or two. It's 2F outside right now and it's like a freaking heatwave by comparison!

Did you guys get hit by the ice storm a couple weeks ago?

Michigan certainly got hit hard, for sure, but we were lucky enough to be just south of the worst of it. My friend who lives about 30 minutes to the north though lost her power for three days. We got a half a foot of snow that time and another whole foot this time and it is suppose to snow again on Saturday. Michigan can kiss my ass. ;)

How did you fare in this latest round?

It's getting that cold down here, too, but we're probably only going to get about two inches of snow. (I mean, our non-wind chill temps will go down to about zero. I doubt we'll go down to thirty below!)

Our lowest temps hit -15, which is almost 50 below freezing and we got almost an entire foot of snow which, added onto the snow we had from the ice storm the week before, we now have 16 inches outside, which then blew into drifts that are at minimum (based on my sister's height who went outside and fell in one) 2 1/2 feet high. I know we are made of heartier stuff here in regards to enduring the cold, but this is fucked up shit, man. So I laugh at your two inches of snow. You come back and laugh at me when it's 105 outside this summer.

Also, I would prefer being trapped in Sands of Time with SHIRTLESS Jake Gyllenhaal. :)

That's not an option! Teenage Jake Gyllenhaal is the model that comes with The Day After Tomorrow style apocalypse. If you don't like it, please file a complaint with The Apocalypse Board (I believe they are located on the third floor of Wolfram and Hart).

Mock all you want - I'm just glad our power didn't go out and our pipes didn't freeze, which happened to a LOT of people (and schools, so I had another "snow" day today, which I completely wasted in napping, housework, and reading - yay for wasted time!).

I won't laugh at you when it's 105 - that's too damned hot!

Um. Damn. Nothing's worth a visit to W&H!

I am glad of that too - for us both! We were worried about the power because if we lost ours, then our mom would more than likely lose hers and we'd be stuck going to a hotel with my sister, me and my walker, my elderly mom, five cats and a dog. Can you imagine that sight?

(and schools, so I had another "snow" day today, which I completely wasted in napping, housework, and reading - yay for wasted time!).

Yay for an excellent day off!! Now were you closed for the snow itself or for the temps, because I know a lot of places (us included) have rules about not having school if it is below a certain degree outside because too many kids walk to school. My sister works in the capitol (for the state) and the State actually had to close down because the Mayor was only allowing emergency persons on the road (police, emts, and doctors/hospital staff) and since 90% of State offices are in Lansing, they had to shut that shit down.

I won't laugh at you when it's 105 - that's too damned hot!

It's rare for us, but it happens.

Um. Damn. Nothing's worth a visit to W&H!

But that's where Lindsey and his deliciously evil hand are!!!!!!!!
Ironlily - Making My Marquevikingprincess on January 9th, 2014 02:10 am (UTC)
That hotel would have to be mighty flexible, I think!

No, we were out for the cold instead of the snow.

Hey, Lindsey leaves W&H sometimes....

Keep warm, hug kitties. Its not too bad here, very cold and snow but much lighter than other places have been getting. Did you see the Narnia story I wrote you?

The kitties have all been sleeping in bed with us, even the ones that aren't overly snuggly. It's just too damn cold to sleep by yourself! Those big front windows in our living room? Frost on the inside of them! (we had to hang blankets to keep the cold out). I saw your picture of the frost on the window over on Tumblr - that is some crazy stuff, man.

Did you see the Narnia story I wrote you?

I hadn't, but now that you pointed it out, I went and looked for it! I plan on reading it tonight! (while I've been so sick, I got behind on my Flist and I've been trying to catch up, but it wouldn't even let me go back that far, and that's just for friend's journals, not even communities and stuff. /shakes head/)

Work on feeling better, the story can keep and I saw some of the snow pictures on Tumblr. Its all scary.

Minus 30 wind chill!!!

We didn't get quite that cold, but we got down to -15, which is still 40 degrees below freezing. Frost formed on the inside of our windows, and that's with the weather stripping up. We had to hang blankets to keep the frost out. (the kitties thought the blankets on the windows were little forts for them!)

*wraps you in warm blankies*

Thank you! Yeah, I got out my super heavy-duty sweatshirt and even then, the only time I was really warm was in bed, under a pile of blankets and kitties. It's suppose to be all the way up to 15 degrees out tomorrow though! Heatwave! lol

stay warm. we just got two feet dumped on us, but it's only been -15 here lol. i hate winter.

New England got slaughtered, but nobody took it as hard as you guys. Boston has to be better at everything than us, including winter. lol No seriously, I do not envy you guys. We actually only hit about -15 in the end, but that still formed frost on the inside of our windows. Counting the snow we got from the ice storm the week before, we now have a foot and a half out there (with drifts coming closer to three feet in some places), but it looks like it might finally be warming up and all the way into the teens! (though more snow on Saturday).

Yeah, winter can kiss my ass. How did you guys end up faring after all?

!!!!! When I was up in Alaska experiencing -51 temp, I could NOT STOP THINKING ABOUT The Day After Tomorrow.

Stay warm and stay safe, girl!

You are an insane person! -50, the fuck?!

My sis and I always joke during snow storms about The Day After Tomorrow, but this time it was like the real thing. You know that scene where the frost/ice is coming down and freezing everything? That happened to our windows. It's insane out there, but maybe getting a little warmer, coming out of the negatives and into the teens even!

Stay warm and stay safe, girl!

Thank you! We are apocalypse prepared! We did things like keeping our cellphones charged and our cat carriers ready, in case of evacuation (aka, if the heat went out).

That picture is AWESOME. (it looks like a statue of one of those things from The Dark Crystal, all covered in snow). Nature is beautiful and deadly, for sure. (as you can see, I am using the icon now!!! Thank you!)

So I am slowly catching up on my Flist from my brainless sick bronchitis time, and I have just caught up to Christmas Day but I am assuming/hoping there will be a report on your LJ about your awesome/insane trip and how that went?!

Good Lord! Stay safe, try not to think of snowpocolipse scenarios, and cuddle with everything furry! Sounds like a long-cooking soup/stew day. Hope the power and heat stay strong.

We have thus far, kept our power and heat on. Which is a good thing, because my mom lives three doors down and if we lost our heat, so would she. Then we'd have to show up at a hotel with my sister, myself and my walker, my elderly mom, five cats and a dog. That'd be a sight.

My sister was actually home for several days, so it was like a mini-vacation for her! But damn, it was cold. And we now have almost a foot and half of snow, so even though we are finally allowed back on the roads, it still isn't the best out there.

How did you fare?
ericadawn16: GrrArghhericadawn16 on January 7th, 2014 01:58 am (UTC)
I'd still prefer ice over zombies or Daleks...I really hate running although a Jurassic Park scenario where they bring dinosaurs back but they take over the planet instead could be fun...

I really hate the cold and I'm not looking forward to going out tomorrow. I know a wind chill of 30 is nothing compared to what you have but for central Florida, it sucks.

lol Naw, see I want the zombie apocalypse, because the key is to hole up somewhere secure from the very start and just hunker down and stay quiet until things kind of thin out (and/or the winter kicks in and they all freeze out there). If you lose your power in the kind of temps we were just having, you'd be dead in a few hours There's no chance of survival that way. Plus, you don't get to shoot any zombies!

I'll totally agree with you on the dinosaur apocalypse though. I mean, survival rates would be low, but damn what a way to go - I mean, just to see a live dinosaur would be worth the price!!

I won't laugh at you, because I know is Michganders all sound like pussies when it hits 105 here in the summer and we're like, "Death! Death!" but dude, it got down to 50 degrees below freezing here (roughly -15) and we have a foot and a half of snow right now. I would be delighted to be in Florida at the moment! (I would never survive a Florida summer though, not a chance in hell).

How did you ending up doing with the temps? Get any snow?
ericadawn16ericadawn16 on January 14th, 2018 05:17 am (UTC)
Nah, we never get snow. We had a 10% chance last month, didn't happen. Not that I'm going to act like that Canadian who practically yelled at me, YOU WILL NEVER GET SNOW!!!

Damn, Tampa got snow in like 1977 or something, calm down. This is also why Floridians are amused by polite Canadian memes but we don't believe them.
