I Guess A Life-Sized Dollhouse Is Just A House.
First of all, thanks to everyone who followed my disability blog! I was so surprised to see you guys over there! I already have 9 followers and I’ve only been using it for about three days steadily, so it’s going well so far.

ION, I went to IKEA yesterday for the first time and it was awesome! For those of you that don’t know, IKEA is a furniture store but it’s freaking huge. You go up to the second floor and they have a showroom, with all the furniture set up in little areas. A living room in this corner, a bedroom over here. An entire section of kids’ rooms. It’s like any furniture store showroom but the size of a warehouse! So it was like being in a life-sized dollhouse. I was freaking out! For those of you that also don’t know, I was totally into dollhouses as a kid. I didn’t care to play with them so much as I just wanted to set them up and arrange the furniture. I was way into décor. And I still am. Like I love the house fandom on Tumblr because it’s all just furniture design and interior decorating shit. I like to look at furniture on like Amazon and design houses and decorate them in my head. I’m a nerd. My dad was really into designing houses via architecture tools and I would watch over his shoulder at what he was designing and then imagine how I would arrange the furniture in his house. IKEA was really stupidly crowded though, so next time I want to go on a weekday, instead of a weekend. I did get an idea of what I need for my room - the last little bit of The Great Reorganization. Sis picked up a totally cute, white and pink desk too!

In final news, my sister got an award at work for managing a huge client. Apparently the client’s head supervisor has nothing but praise for Sis and put in for her to get acknowledgement from the super up-high boss at Sis’ company and they ended up giving her a commendation and everything. She says she feels weird about it because there is a whole team who worked on the project and they all deserve recognition, but I was all, “You are the one who handled all the obnoxious phone calls and meet and greets and client bullshit…handling it in such a tactful way that you managed to keep the million dollar client, so you get the award, boo.” I am rather proud of her, myself.

That is all.

Hearty congrats to Sis!

I'll pass it on! I think it's awesome that the director of the company took notice of her!

Hey you! Your fic request is up.

Man, I love decorating. It's why I'm excited but also bummed about a new house out in the country. I finally got this place the way I want it, after twenty plus years, and now we're looking at leaving?! Waah. :P

Also, huge congrats to Sister!

I get that. I'd be psyched to get to decorate and design a new house, but I'd also be sad about losing all the work put into the old house. I just want to design all the houses and then not let anyone touch anything in any of them! Is that too much to ask, damn?!

Also, huge congrats to Sister!

Thank you1 I'm a proud, Sissy!

At least I can take the redone living room with me (mostly) since it was all about furniture and rugs, and two hanging lamps. And the beautiful "built in" bookshelves that TAHtm made for the office/library are nothing of the sort - they just LOOK built it. Mu ha ha! I'll have to leave behind the awesome Oriental-inspired dresser and twin closets in the bedroom, but that's okay.

I think it's completely reasonable to want our designs to stay - but tastes and styles do change over the decades.

You should be!

Have you seen this commercial from IKEA with cats?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7vXP3tHzhA

There's also a vid showing the making of it. Where the camera crew put up this really high wall that they thought would keep the cats contained, and one got loose.

Oh the IKEA commercial! I'd seen the Behind The Scenes video but not the actual commercial! Omg, it's like my dream come true - furniture design and cats!!

Congrats to your sister. *woot*

I have never been to an IKEA store, but I've heard that they are quite impressive.

Could you please give me the link to your disability blog? I inadvertently deleted the entry where you first posted the link.

It's an awesome thing to get the recognition because I know how hard she worked on this client's project. I am proud of her!

I can easily see why some people say it can be overwhelming, because it is so huge and there are so many choices, but it had my mind whirring with ideas and design. I took pictures of the bedroom set I want to save up for - it was all too cute!

I have just spent over an hour reading the Disableism blog. Amazing and I'm fascinated by Christine Miserandino's Spoon Theory. What a great way to explain disability to others.

Thanks again for posting the link for me.

Amazing and I'm fascinated by Christine Miserandino's Spoon Theory

The Spoon Theory has literally improved my quality of care. I made all of my 'care takers' (Sister, Mom, Counselor, BFF) read it and now I can just say, "I used too many spoons today," or "That activity took my last spoon," and they totally get it, without me having to go into, "I have a headache and my back hurts and this and that," I can just say, "My spoons are gone," and they get that I need to lay on the couch for the rest of the evening or have quiet time for awhile or whatever. It has been a great way to talk to other spoonies too! (see, we even call ourselves spoonies after The Spoon Theory!)

I hope to really start using my Disableism blog to talk more about my own experiences, not just complaints here and there, once I have a few projects out of the way and can get back to spending more time on Tumblr. I am glad you enjoyed reading it!

I'm glad you liked IKEA so much! I've never thought of it as a big dollhouse before, but you're totally right! That's what it is! And interior decoration is awesome. Me and the Boyfriend are moving into a new place soon (sub-letting, so not OUR place, but still) and I can't wait to decide what goes where and how it should look. :D

As for the blog, I love the idea! I'd only just started following it and read some of the posts, particularily the one about not being someone else's inspiration, when I witnessed just such an exchange at work. It pissed me off, and the guy in the wheelchair seemed pretty unhappy about it too. Grr. Anyway, my point is that it's really good to get educated and that your blog is awesome. <3

Wow! You guys are moving into together? That is huge! I mean, I know you lived together before, right, when he came back with you after school or whatever? But this will be your own place, just the two of you! That's cool. Oh man, I LOVED designing my first place. I was pretty damn poor, so it was a lot of mix and match stuff, whatever I could afford, but it was all MINE, everything in there belonged to me and that was a great feeling.

Oh, I hate when people tell me I am inspiration. Like, bitch, I am not here to inspire you. I don't get out of bed everyday to inspire you. I get out of bed everyday because that's what I HAVE to do. Able-bodied people get out of bed everyday too and no one claps for them. (Though sometimes I wish there were like a throng of shirtless dudes in my room to clap for me when I get out bed cuz some days that shit is hard as fuck to do.) But I don't do it to inspire anyone. And I don't need everyone to 'bless me' all the damn time either. Keep your 'God bless yous' to yourself!

Lol I should put that rant up on my blog, that'd get some notes!

We are! One week from now! Right now, I'm staying at my dad's while the BF is back in England visiting friends and family (basically I'm homeless for a week. The housing situation is Stockholm is FUCKED UP.) but then we have our own place and woo! (For two months. Then we have to move again. See above re housing situation.)

That should totally be a thing! And you should put that whole thing on your blog, it was awesome. <3
