Mail Thievery.
So, this happened last week and ranua - (theyareallsoopretty on tumblr) - put up a post about it over on Tumblr. I just reblogged it with some added commentary and thought I'd share here as well. Basically, some people are lovely, thoughtful friends and some people are asshole thieves. My added commentary here:

So this was me. theyareallsoopretty is one of my best friends in the world and has gotten into a habit of picking me up a little something whenever she can make it to a convention. She knows I love geeky things and I love conventions, but because of the decline of my health, haven’t been able to go to one in a few years. And she always thinks of me. She lives several states away and has to mail these trinkets - (which have included cool things like a bracelet from a Steve Carlson concert and hobbit cartoon cards and a zombie Barbie head that I have tied to my bedroom light string). She stuck this one - a little impala - into an envelope with a sweet little note and sent it on its way to me. The thief in question tore open a tiny hole in the middle of the envelope, wriggled their fingers around inside and somehow pulled the impala out of its plastic sleeve. They left holes in the envelope which they taped up, left holes in the note she wrote me, left the cardboard tab ripped and the little plastic sleeve empty. This is how it arrived at my house.

I was beaming just getting a letter from her and when I realized what had happened, I was joyed that she thought of me when she saw the impala and saddened that in a world where one friend could reach out to another friend like that, that someone else would take it upon themselves to steal and wriggle their way into the middle of such love and kindness. I do thank you, friend, for thinking of me. You always do and it makes me smile every time! But I hope the thief pokes themselves hard enough to draw blood with my little impala!

So, yeah, that happened. I'm less upset now than I was when it first happened but still, a dick move, man.

IKR?! I can't believe some asshole ripped open my package, left holes in my sweet little note from my friend, and stole my Impala necklace!! My friend contacted the place and asked them to send another one and they did, so now I have my Impala necklace at last! She's a good friend, that one, but damn, I bet that asshole who stole it doesn't even watch SPN!

I know! I hope the thief wears my Impala necklace to bed and it wraps around their throat and chokes them out! Damn. My friend ordered me another one, so now I have one of my own, because she is an awesome friend!

I don't know what prompted you to say so, but I won't disagree, I am awesome. You are awesome too! We should form a superhero team and called ourselves The Awesomes! Or, The Awesome Squad. Or Awescredibles! (I may be spending too much time in the headspace of a 9 year old fanboy).

*sigh* At least the good-hearted, kind people in our lives remind us that not everyone is selfish and unfeeling.

I think I was mostly upset that they ripped holes in the sweet little note she wrote me, though of course I was also sad they stole my necklace.

My friend contacted the company and arranged for them to send me another one, though it is my understanding that they usually only sell at conventions, they did go ahead and let her buy one and shipped it to me, so now I have an Impala necklace! (it came on a really nice chain too!)

Not only did the thief steal my necklace, but they ripped holes in the sweet little note she sent me! Boo them.

My friend arranged to get me another necklace, so that was a sweet surprise when it arrived in the mail though! <3

That's terrible. The person probably hoped it was drugs or jewelery. But they took the impala and then took time to tape everything up? Wow.

Well, technically it was jewelry, as the Impala was on a chain. Though I bet the thief doesn't even watch SPN and didn't even understand what it was and also, it had no sentimental value to them as their friend didn't pick it up for them special at convention!! Argh.

They did tape it all back up, yet left the empty plastic sleeve and the empty cardboard tab in there and the note, saying that there was suppose to be an Impala in the envelope. It seems like it would have been easier just to steal the whole thing and pretend it got lost in the mail!

My second thought - after "Woah, how pretty and cool!" - when I opened the newly arrived Impala was "Oh wow, look at how long that chain is. I hope they try to wear theirs to bed and the chain chokes them out in their sleep!"

I love it, btw, if I didn't tell you that yet. I love it lots!

There is a Christmas thingy in SK where you write or send a pic or anything to "999 99 Ježiško" and Ježiško (SK equal to Germany's "Christkind") will send you a letter and a little present (throughthe years it was sticker, mini puzzle, CD with some Christmas songs, chocolate egg,...).

When we were little one time we wrote to Ježiško and two of us got a response and a gift...lil' sis didn't. We had no clue what happened or where did the letter for her diappear.
It turned out the postman (one of our neighbours) had it at home (which we wouldn't find out if my mom wouldn't give up and after asking at the post office she went and asked him if he hasn't seen it).
He would have kept a child's Christmas letter from Ježiško (imagine your siblings getting a letter and gift from Santa himself and you not getting it because of an old asshole).

To this day we have no idea why he kept it.

People are assholes.

OMG. That is like the kind of thing where there is a special level of hell for like people who steal Christmas presents from Santa Claus to little children! Your poor sis must have thought she had been too naughty to get a gift or something horrible like that! I would have egged his house!

People are assholes

Word, sister. Totally true.

Though my friend did arrange for me to get another Impala necklace sent to me, so not all people are assholes. Just the assholey ones! (I bet the thief didn't even know what the Impala was or watch SPN or anything.)
