The Future Is Unknown.
I'm getting tired of making these posts. I shouldn't be making another post like this so damn soon. I'll tell you a story though - I think the first thing I ever saw Alan Rickman in was Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Now my mom was really into Kevin Costner and I, myself, couldn't have been more than 13 at the time and I remember saying to her how I was rooting for the Sheriff of Nottingham, because Robin Hood was kind of lame and the sheriff was sexy and had a cool voice and idek what all. But what I do know is that my mom got so mad at me. She wanted to talk about that movie for days and all I wanted to talk about was the sheriff and she would get so incensed. I had the same reaction when I saw Die Hard on VHS later that year and my brother was like, "But he's a terrorist," and I was all, "But a hot terrorist."

Today elfscribe5 put up a post about Galaxy Quest and you know, there is a moment with his character towards the end that legit makes me cry every time. If you've seen the movie, you know the part. Alan Rickman carried emotion in everything he did, even when playing an actor playing an alien fighting alongside real aliens. From Die Hard, Galaxy Quest, Quigley Down Under, Rasputin, Love Actually, Harry Potter, Dogma and everything else I ever saw him in, Alan Rickman carried himself with fucking class and style. And no one, ever, will have a voice like that again.

"It would be wonderful to think that the future is unknown and sort of surprising." - Alan Rickman

So raise your wands. Light 'em up. For Alan.

great post, babe.

Thanks. Still can't quite believe we'll never see Alan in another new movie again.

I can't believe that he's died. When I saw things on my Twitter on the train ride to NYC, I kept hoping it was wrong. He was probably the best part of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, my least favorite adaptation but he was having a good time.

What a terrible place to be to hear news like that. It was the very first thing I saw after I woke up. I literally had just rolled over and picked up my IPad and as soon as I logged on. It was too early for that.

We discussed this once, how he carried that movie. I am still disbelieving of his passing.

He was a great actor and a loss to us all.

And didn't Alan Rickman just have such a stunning, unique voice? His passing still seems unreal.

I love Galaxy Quest and he was the best thing in it. He gave it such heart (I know the scene you mean, it gets me every time)

That's the thing about that movie - it is such a ridiculous, fun little flick but then there are moments where your heart actually hurts.

(I know the scene you mean, it gets me every time)

I cry every damn time.

In addition:

I first saw Rickman in Die Hard - he was the sexiest thing in the entire damned movie.

I didn't enjoy the entire Robin Hood movie except for two people: Christian Slater and Alan Rickman. I was angry that they made Rickman a bit of a buffoon, and completely disgusted by Kevin Costner's pathetic accent and spaghetti-limp acting. (Also, the story was lame-ified.)

All of which is to say - he was magnificent.

Not that there was anything wrong with Bruce Willis, but hot damn, I wanted Rickman to win in that one. And you know I am a little bit younger than you, so I was really too young to be rooting for terrorists, if there is an appropriate age for that. ;)

Agree with all of that, babe. I have a friend who is a huge Robin Hood-verse fangirl, rp for Will Scarlet, has seen every adaption - and she will tell anyone who listens how this is the worst movie to happen to Robin Hood.

All of which is to say - he was magnificent.

He really, really was.

So true. This is a beautiful tribute.

It's still shocking to me that Rickman is gone. <3

I made this choking, high pitched noise when I found out he had died. I just sat there for a while. I didn't even know he was sick. He was only four years older than my mom. I loved him in everything I ever saw him in.

First thing I saw him in was either Prince of Thieves or Dogma. I looooooved him in Dogma, he will always be the one and only Metatron to me. I can't believe he's gone.

Your icon is exactly how I felt when I heard Alan Rickman had died.

Oh god, it was awful when I read the news. And I don't think anyone knew he was sick. When I read that Emma Thompson was called to be at his side and got to hold his hand and tell him goodbye - jfc, I lost it.

he will always be the one and only Metatron to me.

For me too. The only Metatron.

I can't believe he's gone.

Me neither, babe. Me neither.
