Hi, I'm Alexander and I Dropped My Sweater In The Sink...
...Not literally, but Thursday kind of blew. I felt like Alexander and my terrible horrible no good very bad day - mostly because nothing horrendous happened, but it was just a lot of little things.

I woke up to find there were no English Muffins left.

The Nicky Brendon movie that was suppose to tape did not because they ran something else - totally the station's fault, not Tivo's. /pets Tivo/

I posted my story - YAY me for not being a lazy poster.

Then I thought, "Hey, is it okay to post multifandom fics at cross-posting places? Like can I post it on a CW RPS comm even though only the first 330 words are Mike/Misha and the rest are other fandoms? And if so, maybe I should look into the other fandoms I wrote in that fic."

So I went to look for LJ communities for Psych, The West Wing and Buffy fandoms (I skipped LOTR RPS, because I figured that would be insanity to sort through the options). Psych and The West Wing are non-existent, as far as I could tell - and Buffy was slightly overwhelming. This is disappointing, especially in regards to The West Wing, since I have a dozen fics from that fandom to post at some point - (Read: when I'm not a lazy ass).

I wasted an hour and still haven't decided about cross-posting the story.

Then, while this was going on, my internet explorer kept shutting down and restarting (thankfully it always restores my last session). It's been doing it for days, so I ran a scan. I have a Trojan. And my anti-virus won't get rid of it.

So I tried to delete it and I can't. It kept saying 'open in another program.' So I checked the date it was downloaded to my computer - Jan 27 - and went through and deleted the two other things I found with that date on them. Then I tried again. Still nothing. The internets inform me that I should download "Remove on Reboot" or "HijackThis" and use those because they get rid of .dll files like the one my trojan is in. But I'm not sure I am comfortable downloading something I know nothing about.

The only other thing I can try is that right around this date - Jan 27 - I hooked up my sister's external harddrive to transfer her music to my computer, so maybe unhooking that will allow me to delete the file I want to delete. idk.

Argh, if I have to take it in somewhere though, what a pain in the ass. I don't even know what a trojan does but it is making me very paranoid.

And I worked on that for like four hours with no result.

I had woken up with a headache, so by now it was way worse.

Then we watched Glee - YAY GLEE. I'll talk about in a different post.

Then I exercised while we watched What Not To Wear. Halfway through my workout, I suddenly got very sluggish feeling. I could barely keep my eyes open. I finished my workout anyway and then just laid there, barely conscious.

It is at this point my sister decides to tell me that I have to throw out one of my favorite shirts. It's my 'Jo Harvelle' shirt. It's this really thin denim material button-up that I wear open over my black tank top (that makes my boobs look awesome) with my dark wash jeans with the sparklies on the butt. If I had a pair of kickass boots and a shotgun, it'd be the whole Harvelle outfit. It's just a badass outfit. But I guess this shirt has met its last leg. I know it's just a stupid shirt, but I was upset. I'm not giving up my Hurley shirt though - no matter how many times she tells me it has holes in it. I wear it over something, who cares if it has holes?!

I tried to get a snack and couldn't reach the cheese sticks, because I have jacked my shoulder up and I couldn't reach that high, and then I threw my pudding on the floor.

Then I got online and started reading the next chapter in the fic I am reading and I got like three paragraphs in and decided to go to bed, I felt so awful. It was five hours earlier than my normal bedtime.

So, hi, I'm Alexander and I don't want plain white sneakers.

Friday was slightly better, even though I still felt exhausted for some reason. I shall report later on my mother fangirling about Bones. Now I have to get some writing in before I head out to see "127 Hours", which apparently due to all the Oscar buzz, has been re-released in theaters. Yay that!

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a crap day. Those days are the worst because all these little things just pile on top of one another and there's not even anything you can blame it on because they're all so silly individually, but together they just ruin everything.
I'm glad Friday was better though *hugs*

I know - I felt so whiny with each little thing being so stupid and silly to complain about, but honestly, by the end of the day I just felt so tired and cranky. Things are better now, it was just a bad day. Thanks for the love. /hugs/

I'm sorry your day sucked hun ((hugs)) Days like that are the worst cuz it's all the little things out to get you.

Wish I had advice to give you about the trojan thingy. All I can say is read all kinds of user reviews about the two remover programs, but I know what you mean about downloading something unknown.

Good luck finding crossover comms and such. The only one I know of for Buffy is Twisting the Hellmouth http://www.tthfanfic.org/ Then there's always AO3 http://archiveofourown.org/ but they've got a waiting list to have an account (to keep their size and bandwidth in check which is understandable) Or, the old standby of fanfiction.net http://www.fanfiction.net/

I know, I felt really whiny and stupid, I mean it's not like anything horrid happened - but I just had a headache when I woke up and everything kind of sucked all day.

I still don't know what to do about the trojan, but my sister is going to help me look it over this weekend - (I swear, I'll be working out something on my computer for days and my sister will sit down and do the exact same thing I just did and suddenly it will be fine. I say she has 'magic fingers' or that she is 'the computer whisperer'). - So we'll do that this weekend and see what to do from there.

Yeah, I was looking at like LJ comms, but I still haven't decided what to do about crossposting the fic. I am actually really proud of this story - it flowed out of me in a way that my writing doesn't usually, so I wanted to share it around a little. I will take another look around in a few days.

Thanks for the support. :)

I usually stumble on LJ comms by accident. I figured if you didn't find anything, there may not be anything to find. Did you check multi-fandom comms too? Tho sometimes the activity level on those is so low it don't seem worth it
dodger_sister: writingdodger_sister on February 15th, 2011 08:28 pm (UTC)
I did look into Multifandom comms - but they all seemed to be like rpgs or specific to something - like there is a multifandom comm for apocalypse fic! OMG! - And crossover comms want actual crossovers, not just fics with various fandoms (I guess it's good I look into this now, since I have fics to post from when I went through a phase where I wrote fics like this - where each section was from a different fandom, just litle snippets that I wrote for my sister and then would string together into one fic).

Anyway - it's all good now - I just searched for the type of fic and then looked to see where the author had posted it - even LOTR RPS - and not so pairing specific that I won't be able to post any future fic there. I was reluctant to join shawn_gus because I know if I ever write Psych slash again it'll probably be Shawn/Lassiter. :)

So now I just have to get with the crossposting!

Man, I hate computer shit.

I got a trojan a while back and used these three programs, plus Norton AntiVirus, to get rid of it.

HijackThis http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
ComboFix http://www.combofix.org/
SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/

It took a few hours and it was a pain in the ass, but I was ultimately successful. Now I use a firefox plugin called NoScript to help me prevent getting new ones.

This actually makes me feel better - that you have used HijackThis before. I hate downloading things that I am not sure are legit. Did you have to use all three of those programs to get rid of your trojan? I looked up the particular trojan and the internet told me that it is a new one just created in Jan 2011. And on my anti-virus homepage, it said that they are aware of the trojan and that they are currently working on an update for their program that will remove it from computers, but have so far come up with nothing.

It's been two years I have had this computer, Murray, and this particular anti-virus program (Trend Micro) and other than a few adwares, I haven't had anything get past my firewall, not any viruses or anything. I think because this is such a new trojan program is the only reason I had a problem. Which I am grateful for, it is a good program - but a Trojan? I had my other computer, Stewart, for eight years and never got a trojan!

Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated. :)

PS: Just curious, do you have a Mac or a PC? I have a PC. Just curious, since we are sharing computer advice here.

I had a pretty stubborn virus on my computer that I thought I had cleared out and then which reappeared. Ultimately I used all three programs together based on advice I found online. I wish I had saved or printed out the instructions, but I cannot find them now.

You might try SuperAntiSpyware first. And if that is not successful, then try combofix OR hijackthis. You can find some instructions for these programs at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html. Instructions for combofix are at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

As you can see, the process is pretty complicated and if you are able to successfully remove the virus with a different program, you should do this.

I have windows xp installed on my PC laptop.

Wishing you the best of luck!
