Charles/Erik Shippers - Run To Your Theater Now!
Well, it only took me a week to put up this post. Okay, X.0 - or X-Men: First Class, if you will.

This movie is an Epic Romance! I was never a big Charles/Erik shipper before the movies, even though I could totally see the attraction to the pairing. But then the movies and the oozing chemistry of Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart and I was all, "Homg, is there a couple slashier than Logan/Scott? Yes, I think there is. Hello, Charles/Erik!"

First Class? Yeah. Now I will talk about Charles/Erik and quote that one line that Erik said to Charles, and I will also talk about a few non-plot related character things - so wolfrider89 and other people who want to be surprised by which mutants show up in the movie, DON'T LOOK BELOW THE CUT! M'kay?

So, Charles/Erik - the three of us there together took turns kicking our feet and covering our mouths and generally trying not to make this noise in the theater - "Aaaaahhhhhhunfguhaaaah" <--that noise. I had to bury my head in my sister's shoulder at one point to keep from squeeing out loud. You know, I have a large number of pairings I like in the X-Men - per my own tastes. And I'm not really a Scott/Logan girl, but I do find it the most obvious pairing ever. However, if the comics suddenly revealed that Scott & Logan had been lovers, I would be shocked - because that's a pairing I only expect in fandom. If the comics suddenly revealed that Xavier and Magneto had been lovers in the past, I honestly don't think I would be shocked at all.

I may be biased based solely on the explosion that happened in my brain after First Class though. It's hard to live life with your slash goggles sewed to your face, yo.

So Magneto is like holding onto Charles and I'm thinking, "Jfc, are they going to kiss? What the hell is happening?" and then Erik looks him right in the eyes and grips him tight and says, "I want you by my side, Charles," and I smashed my face into my sister's shoulder because this strangled noise was coming out of me AND OMG YOU GUYS WHAT IS HAPPENING?! Not to mention the scene where Charles was poking around in Erik's head and I was all, "IT'S LIKE THEY ARE HAVING SEX WITH THEIR CLOTHES ON!"

Also, who else saw Darwin/Alex slash in there? Anybody? Please, someone else say you saw it!

I really liked Hank (cute!) and I loved where they went with his character and imagining how he goes from there to where he ends up, personality-wise that is, so comfortable with himself and all later on in his life. Banshee was awesome (and adorable) and Angel (though I was confused because I didn't know who she was and thought she was meant to be Pixie at first) was totally hot and badass. You guys, you know how I always say I want to be a female stripper when I grow up? Can I please be A FEMALE STRIPPER WITH WINGS?! PLEASE?! Also, Idk why Emma Frost was in this movie - it is the only thing that doesn't fit the movie-canon they have set for themselves - but do I care when she was so fucking hot? I don't. Like, I was never attracted to January Jones in anything I ever saw her in, ever - but this, idk, I found her hot. Also, I was so happy to see Moira MacTaggert, as I always liked her. I won't mention the 30 seconds in the bar during the montage scene, since I promised nothing overly spoilery here, but for people who saw it already and know to whom/what I am referring - the guys behind us laughed at our girly reactions and flailing about. It took a long time for us to calm the fuck down. We all had little mini-seizures.

Hmmm, a lot of that was about how hot everyone was. /shrugs/ Also, apparently I spend too much time at the kink_memes, because the porn that kept randomly popping into my head between Charles and Erik while watching this movie - I was actually paying attention to the movie, I swear - I just also had porn in my head.

You know what I want?

I want an X-Men kink_meme based solely on them having to use their powers during sex. Idk how this would work for say, Wolverine (claws - blood kink anyone?) - but Xavier, Magneto, Jean, Iceman - well, I have ideas for a whole lot of them.

I also want to be a female stripper with wings.

Tomorrow I go see "Super 8"!!!! I am excite. (my sister is being very cool about paying for things and letting me pay her back after my trip at the end of the month - gotta love my sister).

There have been quotes floating around with James and Fassbender completely hyping the slash since they clearly saw it.

I think I need to see X-Men again, I have a person to take with me. Why are all my truly sexy James' icons on Will's account?

I love when that happens, like it is so obvious, even the actors get it. The BFF saw some interviews and said they are ridiculously adorable together in real life as well.

I wanted to see it again as well. Then we went and saw Super 8 and now I want to that again. Apparently this is the summer of good movies I want to see twice - though also the summer of having less money than usual.

It really is. I saw Thor twice and will definitely see X-Men twice.

Its always a great sign when an action movie improves on rewatching.
dodger_sister: brotherhood of mutantsdodger_sister on June 12th, 2011 09:30 pm (UTC)
I would have seen Thor again too and I didn't even want to see it in the first place - I just went because my sister wanted too. I also want to see the new HP (probably twice), Green Lantern, Cowboys and Aliens (probably twice), as well as seeing Super 8 for a second time.

I just went and read/watched a bunch of interviews with Fassbender and McAvoy and holy crap, they are adorable together. The way they sort of lean into each other and make stupid jokes that only they laugh at. Too cute.

But did you see the Daily Telegraph interview where McAvoy said, "It is a little bit of a mini-tragedy that him and Magneto don't, you know, have sex and become married and become best friends."

This is me right now - 8) heehee
Kate: Tom on the banisterceitfianna on June 12th, 2011 09:32 pm (UTC)
I haven't read the interview but I've seen that quote about. James McAvoy is adorable in interviews, the ones with him and Georgie Henley for Narnia are some of my favorites.

I don't tend to actually watch that many interviews, I'm not sure why.
dodger_sister: dominic monaghandodger_sister on June 13th, 2011 12:59 am (UTC)
James was so cute with Georgie, on the behind the scenes playing games with her in between takes and when she was doubled over with growing pains, he was just crouched down next to her rubbing her back and saying soothing things - my heart, seriously.

I don't watch a ton of interviews anymore, but back in LotR days, I watched whatever I could get my hands on - especially Dom and Billy, those boys owned me.

I thought she was Wasp. Or maybe Pixie. Definitely not Angel. Angel is a boy and has feathers, and was already in movie!verse. Silly movie makers!

Your flail is made of win, though. :)

That's what I was like - Angel is Warren Worthington and we already saw him in the movies! But then I went and looked up her full name and she is apparently actually "Tempest". I did research...

Angel Salvadore - Angel Salvadore, often simply called Angel but now going by the codename Tempest, is a fictional character created by Grant Morrison and Ethan Van Sciver. She first appeared in New X-Men #118.

I am reassured that you didn't know who she was either though - since you know way more about comics than I do.

Your flail is made of win, though. :)

Why, thank you. ;) It was hard to control myself in the theater - being a fangirl in public can be so trying.

Ahhh, back in town at last. :)

Since there are over 1900 canon mutant characters, I can't expect to know them all, but I did sort of figure I'd recognize anyone who was in a movie, you know?

Everyone who I know who has seen the film watched the whole thing with slash goggles, which means I'm going to go see it, LOL. I love shit like that, where those of us in the know see an entirely different film than, say, the fanboy two seats over.

I guess I'll take advantage of the fact that I am out of work and treat myself to a matinee next week.

It's very hard to see this movie with anything but your slash goggles. This is one of those movies where I can't imagine how even non-slasher people don't see it, it's right there. And with the actors saying things like...

"But he wasn't looking for Erik; he didn't know he was there and he suddenly felt Erik and perhaps he has never connected to anybody quite the same way that he connected to Erik, you know?" - James McAvoy

Seriously. And yet I am sure there are people at the theater watching a superhero action movie and not an epic romance, like I was. lol

Yes, do go see this movie.

Charles was poking around in Erik's head and I was all, "IT'S LIKE THEY ARE HAVING SEX WITH THEIR CLOTHES ON!" YES! YES! A MILLION TIMES YES! even the BF, who hates when I try to 'gay up' movies and stuff, agreed this was an epic love story. They were a totally campy gay couple in the montage scene. And the chess playing and the soulful looks. *gah* I know there was more to the movie, but Charles and Erik ate my brain. I need fic now.

who else saw Darwin/Alex slash in there? *nods* I'd buy that for a dollar. They were kinda sweet weren't they.

I also want to be a female stripper with wings. I want the tattoo her wings hid as.

Tomorrow I go see "Super 8" You'll have to say if it's any good or not. The ads for it are all over my comics, but print ads don't do much for me.

YES, IKR. Wasn't it after they had their big talk during the chess scene where they basically stated that they were on opposite sides of this divide, that Erik ended up in bed with Mystique? Oh, Erik, your heart is all broken over Charles so you sleep with his sister? I do kind of feel like I didn't give the X-Men aspect of this the attention it deserved because yes, Charles/Erik was eating my brain.

There was this moment between Alex and Darwin where they were standing at, I think a pinball machine, just hanging out and being boys and when Alex walked away, he trailed his hand across Darwin as he went and I sat straight up in my seat and was like, "Oh, interesting." Then immediately after that scene, Darwin died and Alex was all messed up over it and I was like, "Gimme all the slash now!"

Oh, yeah, I'd take the tattoo as well. Clearly I just want to be Angel Salvadore. Cuz I also always say I would follow Magneto anywhere - join his side not because I really believe in it, but because I just want to be on Magneto's team. So yep, I'll be Angel now.

Super 8 was fantastic. The kids were great - (like older versions of the Goonies) - and it was what JJ does best, crashing shit and blowing it up. They had a great build up, a very good story, Ron Eldard (who I love and didn't know was in this), it was great action and one of those things where each character has their own individual personality. I'd go see it again if I had any money. It doesn't make you sit around thinking about it for hours or anything afterwards, but occasionally my mind strays back to thinking about certain scenes and I'm just like, "Yeah, that was a good movie." Loads of Fun. I clapped and cheered a few times during the movie even.

dodger_sister: brotherhood of mutantsdodger_sister on June 15th, 2011 01:47 am (UTC)
Well, it was mostly kids in the movies, so there wasn't a lot of subtext, but JJ Abrams is best at blowing shit up, for damn sure.

First of all: OMG, I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE! WHY WAS I SO LATE? WHAT POSSIBLE EXCUSE DO I HAVE?

Second: I LOVED it! Loved it, geeked out over it, had so many thoughts that I've forgotten about now! Seriously, even if you hadn't mentioned the Erik/Charles thing, I would have slashed them so hard! Just... yeah, those two were totally doing it.

It's hard to live life with your slash goggles sewed to your face, yo.
Jup. Hard, but kind of awesome. :P

Not to mention the scene where Charles was poking around in Erik's head and I was all, "IT'S LIKE THEY ARE HAVING SEX WITH THEIR CLOTHES ON!"
RIGHT?! Oh god, I loved that scene. I have never liked Magneto as much as I liked him in this movie, and he was played by Ian McKellen before. *flail*

Also, who else saw Darwin/Alex slash in there? Anybody? Please, someone else say you saw it!
I saw it! Me! *waves hand* It was kind of heartbreaking! Alex lost his boyfriend! :(

Also, I was so happy to see Moira MacTaggert, as I always liked her.
I squeed. It was a silent squee, accompanied by much flailing, but a squee nonetheless. I missed her scottish accent, but OMG IT WAS MOIRA! :D

It WAS Banshee! Banshee was there! Weee! (I might have had a crush on him when I first started reading X-Men. I admit to nothing.)

Angel was awesome, with the wings and the hotness and the wings! And that scene where Charles and Erik sat in the bed together when they were going to recruit her? SO much slash. My brain. I love it.

Also? Storm! And Wolverine! I almost love the mini-cameos as much as I love the rest, because I always get so squeey over them. :P

I'm pretty sure there was more, but I can't think of it right now. I want to see it again! Now!
dodger_sister: brotherhood of mutantsdodger_sister on June 20th, 2011 02:36 am (UTC)
YAY OMG!!! IT'S SO AWESOME, RIGHT?!

I know, I was actually worried that I wouldn't like Erik, because I am so madly in love with McKellan's intreptation of him - but Fassbender just nailed it and reminded me of all the things I remember liking and understanding about Magneto back in the day.

And they were totally having sex with their clothes on. ;)

It was kind of heartbreaking! Alex lost his boyfriend! :(

YES! Thank you, yes. He was more broken by Darwin's death than anyone and it makes me wish they will have more Havoc later on, because his big thing (if I remember correctly) is a fear of losing control of his own power and idk, I just saw this there and omg, I am rambling.

Moria - Yeah, right, she should have an accent. But then she probably wouldn't have worked for the CIA or whomever it was. Still, boo, no accent. I just really remember liking her way back when and now I can't even remember if it was the comics or one of the cartoons or what.

Banshee was adorable, bb! I don't recall him from the comics exactly, even though I knew who he was and what his powers were, so I must have known something about him before - but I loved him in this movie. He had that representation of the young unsure X-Men that comes into his own, perfectly.

Angel was just hot! That is a fine looking stripper with wings! Fassbender and McAvoy said that there were scenes where they kind of adlibbed in the part where they were on the bed recruiting her and that it got a little out of control and perhaps a bit perveted and they had to cut a bunch of stuff. I hope we see it on the behind-the-scenes on the dvd!!

Wolverine's "Fuck Off" was perfect!! Even if the guys behind us laughed at our girlish giggling. Wait...do I remember seeing Storm? I don't. Where was she - in the recruiting scene? I clearly need to see this again, omg, I can't believe I missed her but all the Charles/Erik clearly fried my brain!!
wolfrider89: X Storm mohawkwolfrider89 on June 20th, 2011 06:47 pm (UTC)
McKellen kind of rules the Universe, so Fassbender had a great challenge there, but damn, he pulled it off!

More Alex would be awesome! I have NO idea how they tie that part up with the other movies, but I loved seeing him, and I loved what they did with his character. Yeah, I recall that as being his biggest fear, too.

Banshee is one of those X-Men they killed who actually stayed dead. When I found out they'd killed him, I was SO sad! IDEK why I like him so much, but I loved seeing him here, even if he was a totally different person (not to mention about 40 yrs younger...).

Angel was super hot! And that scene has SO much potential for perverted lines, so I'm crossing all my fingers for it being in the behind-the-scenes!

Storm showed up when Charles tried out Cerebro the first time, the flashed by in like a second but I still managed to make a geeky sound. :P

Charles/Erik has that power, yes. Brain frying.

Yes, I was highly impressed. I wonder if McKellan saw it and what he thought.

More Alex would be awesome! I have NO idea how they tie that part up with the other movies,

They could have him be some other kind of relative to Scott - cousin, uncle, way older brother, etc. They kind of messed around with the Sabertooth and Wolverine connection in the movies too. Like The Nephew always says when we go to play with our action figures, "Are we playing like the movie or the cartoon? Cuz sometimes Sabertooth is Wolverine's dad and sometimes he is his brother." Now we have two Wolverine action figures though, so one can be Sabertooth's brother and one can be his son. ;)

Banshee is Siryn's dad, right? Wait, wait...omg, Sean Cassidy! Hang on, I know this guy - he is in one of the short stories in my X-Men Legend book. One of the ones I read over and over! /headdesk/ How could I forget that, I just reread that book last summer! He gets recruited by SHIELD to go to this island and stop, um, I think it is The Mutant Master. I didn't even connect the two in my head, since he was so much younger in the movie. Dammit, I wish I had realized while I was watching it!

Oh yeah....I remember Storm being there for a second in the Cerebro scene. Me and like one other person in the audience made a gasp noise.

I told my dad, a big movie-Wolverine fan, about Logan's scene in the movie and he said, "That pretty much sums up Wolvie's views on everything." lol

Hahaha, that's awesome! :D And yeah, I'm sure they'd work out some good solution for the Alex thing. As long as he isn't Scott's dad, it's all good. :P

Banshee is Siryn's dad, right? Wait, wait...omg, Sean Cassidy!
Yes! That's the guy! He's QUITE a lot younger in the film. :P

Me and like one other person in the audience made a gasp noise.
I think I was the only one in the audience who got it... But then again, the cinema was like half empty, so maybe that doesn't say anything. :P

I told my dad, a big movie-Wolverine fan, about Logan's scene in the movie and he said, "That pretty much sums up Wolvie's views on everything." lol
*giggle* It does, doesn't it? Oh Wolvie.

Btw, my moms reaction to Erik "turning evil" at the end: I thought it all would work out! And I was like: Uh, mom, you know you have watched the other movies, right? :P

I agree, as long as they don't make Alex be Scott's dad, it'll be fine.
